In this trade, the Grizzlies need a backup shooting guard and the Timberwolves have a couple of them. The Grizzlies have interest in Wayne Ellington, Wesley Johnson, and Martell Webster before he got hit with the amnesty clause. Ellington likely is the Grizzlies’ main target because of his salary. The 6-4 guard will earn a little more than $2 million this season & Johnson will make $4.2 million.
1) Memphis/Minnesota
-T'Wolves get: Dante Cunningham
-Grizzlies get: Wayne Ellington
Changed this title from in talks to official now that it is.

Which would be fine, if Cunningham would be the defensive backup 3/4 instead of re-signing Tolliver. Trade would happen after all the other free agent moves happen, since salary matching would be met.

I agree after all Roy and Schved are signed would have little use for Ellington and could use a swing forward to add some FC depth, Memphis on the other hand already has FC depth in Speights and Arthur add a shooter and save a little cash in the process.

Would love to trade Ellington for Cunningham. Cunningham is a better player IMO. Ellington has a nice stroke, but is inconsistent. He gives effort on defense, but isn't good at it.

The rare excellent trade

seems like a no brainer for both teams.

I think MEMshould work a trade for Rip, but beggers can't be choosey.

Rip costs around 5 (?) while Wayne makes around 1.2-1.4.
I think this is a great deal for both squads. I like Ellington but from what I read I think I'll learn to like Cunningham quickly especially if Tolliver bolts for Chicago.

Minnesota acquired forward Dante Cunningham from the Memphis Grizzlies for guard Wayne Ellington.
