KOTB: Charlotte and Atlanta

Scenario: AS break and Josh Smith isn't willing to sign an extension in Atlanta. Charlotte is one of the first ones to hop on it.

Atlanta trades: Josh Smith + Anthony Tolliver
Charlotte trades: Gerald Henderson + Bismack Biyombo + DeSagana Diop + Portland's Protected Pick

Atlanta:
Jeff Teague / Devin Harris
Gerald Henderson / Lou Williams / Anthony Morrow / John Jenkins
Kyle Korver / DeShawn Stevenson
Bismack Biyombo / Ivan Johnson / Mike Scott
Al Horford / Zaza Pachulia / DeSagana Diop / Johan Petro

Stays a bit young while maintaining the cap flexibility. I think Biyombo + Horford is as good a fit as Smith. Continues with their rebuild.

Charlotte:
Kemba Walker / Ramon Sessions / Cory Higgins
Jeff Taylor / Ben Gordon
MKG / Reggie Williams / Hakim Warrick
Josh Smith / Anthony Tolliver / Tyrus Thomas
Brendon Haywood / BJ Mullens

A good mixture of offense and defense on all positions. Can return to a playoff team. Charlotte isn't a free agent destination to this could help them.

No.

I don't think Atlanta does this. Biyombo is the main piece coming back and while he holds a lot of hope for Charlotte he hasn't proven to be a high enough caliber player to be the primary piece for Smith. I believe you've miscalculated how Atlanta intends to build by assuming Atlanta will take quantity and expiring contracts for Smith.

Nice premise, but Charlotte says no. Josh Smith will be overpaid for his production and impact on the basketball game. If we were to go Smith's direction, which I doubt, I'd rather just sign him outright if we happen to get Zeller or Noel in the draft. We can amnesty Tyrus and be 25 million below the cap.

That is a serious overpay and there's nothing that says Smith would sign an extension here. No thanks.

I don't think it's bad value on its face, but I don't think Josh Smith is a good piece for Charlotte going forward. If we're going to consolidate those assets, I'd rather it be for Horford

No.

It would work with Horford perhaps, but not a free agent like Smith.

Yeah, this would be a no from both sides.

From CHAR, it's easy - there is no confidence that they can resign a soon-to-be UFA they just traded for. Even with Jordan and cap room, I don't think there's too many would that would stay.

For ATL, we know that Smoove, like every other soon-to-be UFA, won't sign an extension - it's just the nature of the beast right now. At this point, the entire scenario falls apart.

Atlanta would have to be drunk not to accept 2 good young prospects on cheap deals and a good pick for Smith. BTW easy NO from me.

No not for smith. He won't resign and will ruin our draft position win we come back to reality.
Now if you really want biyombo we'll take John Jenkins+ top 10 13 1st for. Biyombo straight up.
Atl doesn't have the pieces to trade up for Noel Len Austin or Adams for their likely late lottery pick

I doubt that Atlanta ends up in the lottery, we're playing pretty good now and beat OKC and almost beat Miami, so I doubt that we'll have a top 10 pick to trade and if we do have a top 10 pick I doubt that we give both it and Jenkins for Biyambo. I think we could trade up by giving the pick, and maybe trade Josh Smith and take back a bad contract to a team he's willing to resign for but doesn't have enough cap room.

I don't know how duping Portlands pick (and udmping it is, for nothing in return) could make sense. On top of it dumping Biyombo as well.
