KOTB: BKN/UTA - Feel I've Done This Before

But couldn't find it when I Googled it, so here it is again.. slightly revised...

Milsap, Marv Williams, Tinsley, '15 BK #2
($18.2m)
for
Humphries, M.Brooks, T.Taylor, '13 #1, Rights to Karaman, TPE (to absorb Tinsley)
($13.6m)

Jazz
Mo Williams / T.Taylor / E.Watson
Burks / Foye / Murphy
Hayward / M.Brooks / Carroll / Bell
Favors / Humphries / Evans
Jefferson / Kanter

While not exactly a PG of the future, Tayshawn Taylor was ranked higher than Lillard by Chad Ford prior to the draft and he did win MVP in Orlando this summer. MarShon Brooks brings his swag to Utah where he could grow with the young core. Humphries is a massive expirer next season and a rebounding role player while in Utah. To top it off Utah saves modest money in this deal, gets an unprotected 1st rounder (probably early 20s) and a Euro stash big man playing in Turkey to look forward to. The Jazz could potentially have 3 picks this year.. GS's, BK's and their own. All for an expiring, undersized PF!

Nets
D.Williams / CJ Watson / Tinsley
J.Johnson / Bogans / Stackhouse
G.Wallace / M.Williams / Shengelia
Milsap / Evans / Teletovic
Lopez / Blatche

The Nets shore up two of their weakest positions.. PF where they miss an offensive option and SF where they need a quality replacement should G.Wall miss time.. which he will. They also bring in an NYC PG and add back a 2nd rounder, since they are out of them through 2017. They assume they can resign Milsap as they will overpay him like everyone else.

Please explicitly state YES or NO whether you think both teams would do this trade.

I'm gonna vote yes.

Marshon Brooks and Gordon Hayward have some nice potential as a wing duo. Humphries is a bulldog next to AJ and Favors. BKN gets the most talented player but they also take on Marvin's salary and are giving up plenty of assets.

I like that you put Marvin in the deal to soften the blow of taking Hump's contract on. That was really smart thinking.

Im still not sure that the assets they get back are quite enough incentive to do this. IT ties up salary and roster spots for next year on non-difference makers.

I dont want to give this a no tho because I think the value is close enough and I dont know enough about Utah's direction.

KOTB: yes

KOTB: yes

Utah might not be excited to do this but they do it gain more assets to make it easier to acquire a PG.

Its funny, I was about to post that I actually liked your version better:

2015 1st

I actually see Utah liking Marvin Williams, and trying to ride him and Milsap to the 6th seed.

I'm not 100% sold that this convinces Utah to give that up, but its close, and fits really well for Brooklyn. If needed, I can be that 5th yes, but I suspect you get it shortly.

{It is too similar, but I think Jefferson for Hump/'13/Brooks has more legs. He's less needed with a Favors/Kanter as a 3rd big, so I would see Utah doing it versus just getting a decent package. And could play center with Wallace at pf or pair with Lopez, so still useful to Brooklyn.}

Deal! I`d LOVE a Jefferson/Lopez front court

Either looks like a nice way to upgrade the Nets. Instant power team in the East. (They're doing pretty good as it is)

Really?

I think Jefferson would clog the paint for Lopez and neither are great defenders. At least Milsap can spread the floor and I think work much better offensively. Rebounding would favor Jefferson/Lopez.

D.Will also seemed to have greater success and played longer with Milsap.

Maybe. At the deadline. If nothing else comes along. If Watson comes back healthy and takes the #2 pg slot. If we find another good deal for Burks.

Deal hurts Jazz at PG (not sold on the pg prospect coming back) and SF. It does nothing to alleviate the big man log jam and further complicates the SG pileup. All this for a late 1st is not that enticing. Still, might be better than standing pat. Just barely. Maybe.

I vote meh.

Jefferson low post, Lopez high post?

I like Milsap much more as a player, but positionally wouldn't a pf/c would make more sense then a pf/pf-sf. Really what it comes down to though is trying to avoid that Utah "Meh".

Now to think up a trade so I can join you in that 2 point circle. Don't hold your breath waiting for company, right now I have nuthin.

I think this does alleviate the big man glut in that Hump is fine playing 24 mpg (as opposed to 30+ for Milsap) and I think would be absolutely fine off the bench as a role player.

E.Watson (when healthy) is just as good as Tinsley and T.Taylor probably better than you realize, with a chance to be a solid contributor in the future with his defense, speed, size and attacking style.

Brooks can play anywhere PG-SF. He was our best back-up PG last season, our best scorer at SG and has the length (7'2" wingspan) and added weight to play SF.

So, I think it's more than just a late 1st.
There is also close to $5m in savings and international prospect coming back.

I understand it's a bit of a poo-poo platter, but it's the best I could do...

Lopez is so much better in the low post. One season Avery made him play further out and he was rather inefficient. This year he's taking less and less outside shots which is good because he's barely been hitting them, other than the bank shot from 15 feet.

I think the idea of a PF/C makes more sense in theory, but we have a PF/C in Blatche that would fit better than Jefferson with Lopez and Avery has yet to play the two of them together. If I was worried about Lopez's foot (which I suppose I should be) then I would give Jefferson more thought, but for now, no I think Milsap would be the much better fit for the team.

On the big man situation: Millsap is sliding over to SF to get a lot of his minutes. That's something that Hump can't do. So, no, I don't think it helps any.

On Taylor. You are correct. I have no clue on him. I hate to assign value to a piece who I have no idea who he even is. Maybe he's worth something, I don't know. I have reservations.

On SF: I guess Brooks and Hayward could both play some SF. I don't think either is as comfortable there as SG though.

The 5mil is nice. But, I'm not paying the bills, and it does nothing other than help the owners this year, right?

An international prospect is nice, but of limited interest. We all ready have Ante Tomic stashed. Couldn't hurt, but, It's really not moving the needle.

I think this deal is a marginal yes though. But, it certainly wouldn't be something I'd do unless I'd have exhausted every other option first.

Maybe if Toronto would be interested in a Hump for Calderon swap I could move it into the firm yes category.

I'm late to vote. I think the value is close, so props to T_J but i think it is not the direction Utah should be moving. They are getting another pf, not a clear upgrade, nor a high pick. It seems a musical chairs game. I would have voted no, so good for you.

No from Utah. No need to trade Paul Millsap, who is a much better player and is an expiring contract, for Humphries and his ghastly 12 million contract (to be a bench player). Don't know why the nets would sign Humphries to that contract but they can go ahead and pay it. The rest coming the the Jazz is assorted junk and a late pick.

Great trade proposal for the Nets but not the direction the Jazz should be going. Humpries does nothing for the Jazz now or the future and eats up cap space. Utah drafted Humphries and shortly thereafter traded him for Rafael Araujo - why would any Utah fan want to ever want to see him in a Jazz uniform ever again.
