V: LMA
With news that Love might miss the season, I have to think his value is down. LMA has always been the superior defender and given his team in the playoffs in the West despite most predicting a bad year for them, he deserves props.
N: D.Williams
With D.Will coming back to life under PJC, people (including me) are remembering he used to be considered a top 2 PG and he's locked up for 5 years.

V: Aldridge
-TJ spelled it out nicely
N: Monroe
- This one is difficult for me, Deron definitely deserves to be nominated here soon, if not already. While it's hard to compare production of a PG to a C, I pulled them up on the basketball ref's player comparison to see. Per36 scoring and eFG% are roughly equal, with Monroe posting a higher FG% and Deron posting a higher TS%. Deron has 4 more assists than Monroe, but Monroe has 7 more rebounds than Williams. Deron is on a stacked team in the playoffs, while Monroe is 6 years younger. Deron can explain his dip in production by the moves Brooklyn made this summer, and while Monroe has no excuse for his numbers going down, he does play at a position with less depth and quality and is still on a rookie contract.
In the end youth, salary and size take the cake for me. I think I'm underrating Deron though, and he should be in the top 20 value.

V: Drummond
N: B. Lopez (for being a versatile post-scorer, Monroe shoots subpar from the field this year. )

Yeah. I'm really not sure here. Pre-Injury Love should have been gone by now. But reinjuries are a scary thing, and his shooting has been messed up from it earlier so its not so easily dismissed. And you could be looking at a player not in great game shape even in this season's playoffs. Probably the biggest reason Curry isn't a nominee by now should be worries about whether his ankles are a chronic concern.
That said, not sure there is someone I put ahead of him either. I'm going to have to think hard and come back to this.
...
I think I take an injured Love over LMA -- Same locked in contract length but 3 years younger and I would be happier with my choice next season.
I think I also take Lilliard over LMA. And over Drummond, who did seem nominated too early -- he needs to prove himself a lot more then he has to not just be the next in a line of Deandre Jordan / McGee / highly gifted physically but one dimensional centers.
Rubio is at 6 games, a 10 per and a 42% TS this season. I haven't seen him recovered enough to go near here.
A really really good case could be made for Rondo. Locked in 3 years at cheaper then LMA/Love. Still young. Healthy. Leading the league in assists, 4 years running 1st or 2nd team all defense, 3 time all star, and with a ring to his name. Even in terms of his weakness, he is shooting almost 50% from the field. I put Rondo ahead of Lilliard for now, to many shiny first season but then unable to progress to Rondo's level pg's are out there.
The only real problems with Rondo are he doesn't have that -- market him as the face of your franchise that Love does, and there are another 1-2 good pg's per year. Pf is deep too.
Has Wade really not gotten a single vote yet? Only 30. Still putting up pretty great numbers. Signed for a minimum of 2 years, and at a position where there is weakness across the board in the league. Of course, as a franchise you just bite the extra 10m a year and have Kobe instead of Wade.
So:
Kobe/Wade, Love and Rondo
Thats my final four, with it really between Love or Rondo for now. I'm still on the fence,
someone convince me to vote one or the other. But for now I'm giving Wade a public vote here for now as he deserves a single vote some point soon.
V: Love -- reiterated later
N: Curry
Curry rant: Stayed healthy for now. 20/6.5 on a team playing winning ball as a 4th year player with team usa exposure. Shouldn't be a first option, but as a complimentary scorer seems pretty under rated not on there yet. Monroe has a decent case. And Ibaka. But I'm going Curry.

Deron is starting to get a bad reputation(even if undeserved). I think at least 65% of teams in the league wouldnt touch him at all with him starting that contract. Again this isnt about talent--its about trade value and I think Deron's trade value is considerably lower than it should be considering his relative youth and productivity.
But when you get Sloan fired (not blaming him for Avery--Avery sucked and needed to go) and then still force your way of out a pretty good situation in Utah. And then your franchise is forced into making the terrible Crash trade, the terrible JJ trade, to give out the terrible Hump contract all because of you--well teams are going be to leery of trading for you. It also hurts that he doesnt seem to give max effort when there is little to play for.
And admittedly I could be interpreting some of that wrong but I still think we are still a ways away from considering Deron seriously.

How did Deron force his way out of Utah exactly?
And last I checked Sloan wasn't fired.

yeah Jerry Sloan just walked away quietly into the night of his own free will. Dont play technicalities Joe. You are much better than that. Sloan would never have coached in Utah for 2 decades and left them hanging in the middle of the season unless the situation was intolerable.
edit: and yeah maybe I have it all wrong--but so much smoke....
double edit: and yeah maybe Im a little bitter he spurned my Mavs

Except ever since the Mavs were out of the running for him you've gone on an anti-Deron tear in almost any thread that mentions him IIRC.
Before that when it looked like you had a very solid chance at him you were all for him though.

Vince,
of course I was for him. He was the only option out there that made sense for us. Getting a player of his caliber for nothing. Heck yes I was on board. Tho I think if you check closer you will see that even then I wasnt a huge Deron fan.
Id still take him in Dallas right now. But if I was a team with actual assets to trade for him, Id think long and hard about whether or not thats how I wanted to use them.
You will also find that I make a lot of posts that sound anti-KG even tho I love KG and would take him on my team any time. I am for being realistic about players and their value. So when people say KG is as good as Duncan I take issue. Likewise when people want to claim Deron is better than guys like Parker, Rondo, etc I will speak up to voice my dissent. Or when people think Deron has top 15 trade value. I will voice my dissent.

I'm a Blazers fan but I would rather have 3 years of a very highly paid Kobe than 10 years of LMA.
I also really want to nominate Deron but so far he hasn't looked too good. I've only seen 2 BKN games though so maybe his stats are misleading?
V: Kobe
N: Curry

He seems like such a different player under PJC. He seems happy again and he's playing and shooting so much better. He started the first 20 games playing like trash and I was one of his biggest detractors, but even then I knew I was being overly reactionary.

This is a tough one for me. Until we hear news on Love's status, his risk makes him tough to rate highly. I am still looking for low-end superstars here. I can't vote for Aldridge, better on defense, but worse by a lot offensively and also in popularity - he's no superstar. I don't think GM's want to gamble on the talented but volatile Rondo, and many have other young PG's they are developing. Kobe I can't rate - no one to compare for salary or impact financially. Marc Gasol's a valuable player, but again, no superstar. Lillard or Rubio both look like they can become superstars, but haven't proved it yet.
