Offseason: Lakers and Thunder

Post#1 » by Kupchak9 » Sat Feb 23, 2013 4:09 am

Lets say neither the Thunder or Lakers win the title this year. KMart decides he wants out for more money than OKC can offer

Who says no to a deal with Pau going to the Thunder and KMart to LA.

LA. If Martin is asking for that much, why would LA want to pay?

Thunder.

They didn't want to pay Harden the max because of luxury tax. What makes you think they want old Gasol now?

Lakers wouldn't be able to get Kevin Martin in a sign and trade. Or anyone, actually.

Yup. New CBA rule kicking in. Mark Cuban decided to break up the champion Mavs team because of this rule (he cited the lack of S&T as a bigger factor than the new high tax rate).

OKC won't want Gasol anyway because they want to avoid tax. The most likely landing spot for Pau would be on a cap space team that swung and missed on Howard, IMO.

True that, no S&T for teams over cap I think it was

Over the apron actually (roughly $74m next year). Lakers are way over that though.

Why do supposed rivals want to a trade like that?

Seem very incompatible.

now when you think about it...gasol might be very difficult to trade unless the lakers are willing to take back players with exisiting mid to big contracts which is something the lakers want to avoid anyway...they might end up amnestying gasol in july or riding with him for another season. there shouldn't be a shortage of teams wanting gasol since his deal is expiring, but are the lakers willing to take back players with non expiring deals?...i doubt it...also, they want very good players back too so wanting good players on expiring or decent deals is gonna be hard to find since those teams are likely to keep those players...the looming increase of lux tax is scaring alot of teams.

Zero chance we even consider this offer.

Gasol makes too much money. Lakers are our rival. Ibaka is our starting PF and he's good.

This is an instant no for OKC and is illegal for LAL.

OKC says no. There is no way they can add that much salary. If Kevin Martin gets > 10 M, OKC will have to just let him walk and go with either an MLE SG or Lamb.

If it's Martin + Perk for Gasol... that MIGHT work OKC, but the Lakers probably don't do it.
