The Trevor Ariza dillemma

So Trevor Ariza, who's playing the best ball of his career, will be a free agent as season's end. The Wizards would want him back, but with Martell Webster resigned to a long contract and Otto Porter waiting in the wings, it seems as though resigning him will be tough.
What can the Wizards get for him? They need backup guards and bigmen in the worst way.

Ariza looks incredible right now, and probably playing at a higher level on both ends than either Webster or Porter will reach any time soon.
But like I said on the Wiz board, I'd rather sell high and see if we can flip him for a young project big or a solid combo guard.

Stuckey (from Detroit) or Thompson (from Sacramento)?

It is a dilemma.... having watched the last few games I'm also inclined to just say screw it and keep him for at least the remainder of the year. He's been playing the 2-guard the last few games with Beal out and been shooting the lights out of the ball. So I'm cool with just keeping him around as a backup SG... as well as get some minutes at SF. If we somehow could get a nice young prospect big then sure... but I wouldn't move him just to move him.

Ariza would be the answer to the Nets prayers. Something around Mirza Teletovic + Jason Terry seems like it could work. WASH could use the added shooting from both spots.

Interesting.
I was also thinking Evans for Singleton just prior to seeing this thread.

Before we traded D Will, I would have loved a deal centered around those 2.
Heck, I remember a lot of Wizards fans liked something around D Will/Shved for Ariza/Lotto Protected 1st

Actually it wouldn't work because Terry and Teletovic stink and Terry is paid entirely too much money for his production.
Unfortunately, the Nets don't own their pick so that's not in play.

How could we say no to such wonderful players?

Maybe if one of those first rounders are attached, I would do CJ Miles, Zeller, and a first for Ariza.

Jarrett Jack and Sims from Cleveland.

I don't like Jack's contract, so I think I'd pass on that one.

I wouldn't trade Zeller for a six month rental of Ariza. He did this the last time he was playing in a contract year. Then he disappeared for several years.

If you want a "good" back up point guard, you are paying $6 million per year. Jack starts for many teams (just not ones who have Irving or Wall). If the Cavs didn't have Waiters and really need a small forward, I wouldn't even want to move him.

Ariza struggles as a primary option, but he's fantastic as a role player who plays off of John Wall. I'd love to resign him and trade Porter (I was on record as hating the pick as a Wiz fan) for a future 1st and some bench help this year.

Nah, we have the worst PG in the NBA in Eric Maynor (who our idiot GM foolishly signed on the first day of FA). Jack is on the wrong side of 30 and is signed for 4 years total. Entirely too long of a contract. At least Ariza is 27+ and will age much better than Jack will.

You might get something at the trade deadline from a desperate contender who suffers an unexpected wing to injury.
Otherwise you're probably better off keeping him cause no one wants to get caught with Ariza in the first year of his next contract.

What type of contract will Ariza want? Could be a last ditch effort for Cavs but would have to find the right value to send

Expectations will get more realistic as the trade deadline nears and the Wizards realize they cannot go forward with three small forwards and they still need a back up pg.

How about Ariza for Illyasova straight up?
