The guy who was making these before is MIA so I decided to make the thread. There was a #4 thread before but it was on another board, I think we should do it again on the Trades and Transactions board

1. Lebron James and Kevin Durant
3. Anthony Davis

Please vote for one of these nominees to be ranked 4th - and vote for a new nominee to replace them. Vote on who has the most trade value taking into account all factors including salary, health and age:

Nominees:

Derrick Rose

Vote Chris Paul

Nominate Dwight Howard

Paul is the 3rd best player in the league and has the contract and style of game to last a while, I think he'd have huge value

Howard's play as of late has him shooting up the trade value ranks

V: George
The best player on arguably the best team in the league. Much younger than Paul with no injury history and arguably a better playoff resume already.

Nominate: Howard

Vote for CP3, I'll put him on third and Paul George on the 4 spot instead of Davis!

Nominate Lance Stephenson, he'll on the high end in the next years, no doubt about it!
Another nominee is Kevin Love!

Vote: George

Nominate: Love

Hard to vote for George with 0.5 years on contract and not vote Love with 1.5. Love is far more productive than any player not up there yet.

George was extended.

And even he wasn't, half a year until restricted free agency is way way way better than 1.5 years until unrestricted free agency. But yes, its 4.5 years of George versus 1.5 of Love.

V: George
N: Dwight

Love needs to be on here soon, but I still give the edge to Dwight. Averaging 18.2 and 13.4 at a much harder position to fill than pf, and signed for an extra year.

Vote: Chris Paul, though this is getting tougher.
Nominate: As I have since round 1, I nominate Dwight. Elite player, huge star, under contract. Can't think of a good reason he's not on here yet.

And I thought people would jump on my line about Love being so productive.

Love actually has 2.5 years of contract, but can opt out a year earlier. For MIN, this opt out may be an issue, but in this thread, we're not ranking each player's trade value to MIN.

For a team that would trade for Love, the opt out means he can re-sign his next max deal earlier. We all agree that Love's next deal will be for the max, and that he will be worth it. I believe more than one team would like Love and can keep him through his next deal, so I guess the question would be, who would a top team rather get for their trade package: Kevin Love or some other guy?

Dwight Howard? Maybe. Drummond or MCW? No way.

Vote: George IMO Paul is somewhat better on-court, but older, significantly more expensive and more of an injury risk

Nom: Drummond

Nom: This is tough... Dwight, Love, Drummond and Lillard are my top choices. Dwight and Love are killing it right now, Drummond has super high potential and Lillard is quickly proving himself while still on a rookie contract.

I will nominate Dwight. More guaranteed contract situation than Love, Drummond still is not good enough offensively and Lillard plays a super stacked position.

Isn't it amazing how quickly trade value changes? I save the links to these threads and it always surprises me that after only six months, players after the top two can jump all over the place. One of the reasons these guys are superstars is that we get not just high production, but "consistent" high production. Still, our projection of youth, contract situation, injuries, and other factors bounce players all over the place.

Anyway, we all rate players differently because it's all about expected production. I just thought that if you read a trade offer for your superstar that you think is too low, don't get mad ... Just wait a couple months! :-)

Here was last year's top 20 for those that didn't save it.
1. LeBron James
2. Kevin Durant
3. Kyrie Irving
4. Derrick Rose
5. Carmelo Anthony
6. Chris Paul
7. Anthony Davis
8. James Harden
9. Russell Westbrook
10. Blake Griffin
11. LaMarcus Aldridge
12. Kevin Love
13. Rajon Rondo
14. Marc Gasol
15. Damian Lillard
16. Andre Drummond
17. Jrue Holiday
18. Stephen Curry
19. Paul George
20. Dwyane Wade

The big changes I see.

Contracts
Much better now: Dwight and Paul. Dwight couldn't crack top 20 because of his impending free agency, and between that and the lingering injuries, I'm not that surprised. Similarly Chris Paul was an impending free agent so that dragged him down. So, both those players could get a huge contract bump and it is consistent as far as I'm concerned.

Worse now: Everyone that didn't resign. However, the biggest difference is felt when it gets down to 6 months left. So I would expect a huge decline in Melo and Lebron (and Wade). And Lebron being tied with Durrant was a huge decline, as he is the runaway mvp, etc etc etc. Next up would be the 1.5 year crew, LMA, Love, Rondo, Gasol

Break out youth
Much better now than a year ago: George, AD. Both have absolutely exploded since last January, so going from the bluest of blue chip prospects to All Stars should get them a jump. Its one thing to be projected as a legit difference maker, another to do it.

Not shining as brightly: Kyrie, Jrue. Kyrie provides a nice counterpoint to George. It is hard to say he was too low when he hadn't performed yet to that level. With the year Kyrie and the Cavs have had, I would expect him to slide a little because not every player makes the jump that AD and George have. Jrue tailspinned after January last year, and its not clear if he will have Paul George style breakout left, or if he will look like Favors and a very solid guy that might never take a step to overshadow an Amir Johnson type role.

{expect lots of arguments about Drummond, Irving, Kyrie, Lillard, etc here though}

Injuries
Better now: Curry. At this point last year, there was so much debate about his ankles. Like Chris Paul's knees, now it is something not really mentioned. Both could change quickly back, but for now there is a big positive bump from the improved health.

Worse now: Rose. (Rondo Gasol Westbrook). Rose can plummet and its more a comment on the occurrence of injuries in derailing careers than anything else.

Altogether, I think last year's list is pretty solid in hindsight. Here was mytake at the time:

x- wrote:Considering Curry's ankle woes, there's no chance Curry's actual trade value is 18th. That one is just nuts to me.

I think PGs are generally overrated on this list, given how deep/good this PG class is.

I think Gasol is a little too high as well.

I agree with Curry being to high.

Paul George is too low, he should be ahead of Jrue for the reason mentioned above.

Paul as a ufa shouldn't be ahead of Harden and Davis. Or Blake.

For this year, I think Lebron is already ranked too high (contract). Also likely to be ranked too high? MCW, Drummond, Rubio if he makes the list.

And Dwight, Blake, and John Wall will be ranked too low. Blake is really underrated on this board always, Dwight I'm about ready to start voting for and he might not clear through nominees, and John Wall has quietly had a nice renaissance after his injury last year.

I'm not sure where Cousins will go, but lets go ahead and call it the biggest controversy on the list?
