Why?
The Rockets go all in with Kevin Love... The Celtics add an big upgrade on the C in Asik while they keep most of their tradeable assets - with Lin they could go with a nice package centered by Rajon Rondo to add another picks to go forth with their rebuilding process... The Wolves add big Talent, expirings and many picks for Love who won´t stay in Minneapolis after 2015

Way too good for Boston. Pretty Meh return for the wolves outside of Parsons

Why is Boston in this deal? They offer minimal value and simply suck it from the deal.

Also since there will be no real inclination to if Love will or won't resign until this offseason this deal doesn't work since Humphries is an FA by then.

Timberwolves get robbed.

I gotta say though, if you just cut Boston out entirely, it's not the worst Kevin Love deal I've seen, not at all. It's a different direction than the "85 picks and 2 blue chippers" type deals.

Lin/Parsons/Asik/Jones/1st/1st for Love & Shved

Minnesota has a lot of assets returning in that deal. Every one of those guys is a legit player - lin, asik, and parsons will always be just a shade below all-star level, unless one has just a monster year one year after getting traded to the right eastern conference team. Jones is only in his 2nd year and showing pretty decent work. Two 1sts are two 1sts.

I like it for the Rockets - it's a real swing-for-the-fences move that only comes around once in a lifetime. Harden/Love/Howard is as big a three as you can find anywhere else, so as long as Morey can make the key complementary moves (signing the right MLE guy, right vet guy, etc) they would be suddenly a new power house. Wouldn't that be amazing? Wouldn't Morey have to get an EOY award if he pulled this off? Would be a stunning 3-year move

Now on the other hand, Minnesota gets some genuine assets, but not really ones that fit - if you trade Love, then Rubio and Pekovic are your two future guys, I presume.. and this deal brings in a PG and a C on big deals.

I think the assets are all valuable, though, so as long as you've got plans to make further moves then it could work.

Then his wife will be really dissapointed.

Minnesota needs more and I think Boston is clearly getting too much value.. But.. Why do they want/need/get Lin? They have Rondo signed for the same amount of money (lol) and the same time... That is stealing value without reason..

Terrible for Minnesota. No star potential there, especially with the protection on the pick. Parsons is good, but never will be a star like Wolves would want.

Nope, we will take what we can get in free agency and keep Parsons.

No superstar talent, but what stars did Denver(w/Melo), Orlando(w/D12), and Utah (w/Deron) really get? All were players who were held to higher regard and all carried there teams to much more success. I don't see many teams giving young stars or Top 5 picks for Love. Not that he's not worth it, I just don't see many teams taking such a risk just for him to leave next off-season.

Then we won't trade him. It's pointless trades like this that make us Wolves fan upset. Kevin Love has never said anything about leaving Minnesota and we certainly don't want to trade a top 5 player in the league or the best PF in the league since we don't have too. Making a thread that starts with an IF is just going to get flamed no matter how you spin it.

None of those trades are similar as Kevin Love isn't a BABY. He doesn't force his way out of an organization, and making threads assuming he does is pointless.

OP might as well make a 'What If" thread for every star in the league and see how the responses he gets for each star's fans. I don't get why we are going to single out Kevin Love when there are plenty of other stars in the league, and like Kevin Love, have never even HINTED at leaving.

Gallinari is an all-star level talent, Wilson Chandler is probably on the level of Parsons.

Orlando was thought to get a shaky deal, but they got a bunch of 1sts and Vucevic.

Jazz got Favors who was a top 3 pick, plus a GS 1st that looked to be good for awhile.

The Melo/Dwill deals only show how much of an overpay NY/NJ actually were dumb enough to give. Getting the star is not enough. Being able to build a winner around the team is the little talked about 2nd part of that. And those deals included near guarantees those players would resign. This Love deal does not.

We have yet to see what the Orlando deal will flesh out, but the odds of this having a happy ending for the Wolves is not high.

That was someone else who said they never got star level talent back, not me. I was merely commenting on those particular instances and how they were somewhat unique.

Your younger, more time, and better comment is just kinda odd. You trying to convince me or yourself?

I think the Orlando scenario is the one you can draw comparisons to what will likely be out there as far Love is concerned. I was just pointing out that the most recent examples turned out very poorly for the offeree's and I find it far more likely less will be available.

Dude - I know that these things can get tedious, but this is the RealGM Trades & Transactions Board. They are not going to stop. We are all basketball fans who enjoy discussing all kinds of possibilities - especially when involving big name players like Love.

We won't trade him. I would bet lots of money that he will leave in free agency before we trade him. How could the Wolves possible sell (to an already unintelligent fanbase from a basketball perspective) trading their franchise player less than 10 years after trading their first franchise player? If they did that, they would have to leave Minnesota because they wouldn't have any fans left in Minnesota except for hardcore basketball fans, which are few and far between here.

The franchise would gain more by letting him walk for nothing than trade their franchise player for "nothing".

I don't think they will trade him by the February deadline, but I can't see why they wouldn't make a deal to get some draft picks and a young prospect or two in the offseason.

Right...basically the Wolves can wait a year (or more) to get the GOOD offer. What they MIGHT settle for...once the options run out...is another thing. It's not in the Wolves iterest to get hasty this soon. Love MIGHT choose to stay. It could become a S+T after next season....or...who knows. They will NOT sell cheap right now..

Meanwhile... players and agents tend to NOT commit early... it's about leverage.
