Let's trade Channing Frye

As an Orlando fan the Frye signing hasn't worked out and its becoming increasing evident that we need more shot blocking.
Im interested to see if there was any market for Frye as he was a valuable starter for the suns last year.
Would Frye net ed Davis? John Henson? Even biyombo?

If you add a draft choice or other value....maybe

negative value to most, marginal value to the others. and no you don't get biyombo

It'll be hard to trade him because he makes so much. The only teams that will be interested in him are contenders and they generally don't have the capspace to do it. Maybe the Hornets would trade Marvin and Biyombo for Frye and Harkless, but I'm doubtful.

Oh how much a month of losing changes perspective. I posted a Frye for Landry or Williams trade a month ago and Orlando fans cried bloody murder. At the time I said once they realized the playoffs were a lost cause they would end up regretting the signing.

I could see Detroit having some interest, but wouldn't offer more then salary relief.

Raptors might go for it - they could definitely use a 4th big man, and Frye is so unique that he would add a really insane dimension to that team. PatPat already is a great stretch 4, but adding a stretch 5? That would take the Raptors offense to stratospheric heights, assuming Frye bounces back in a limited role on a winning team.
They have expirings, and they could even toss in a late pick if they really think Frye could be the piece that puts them over the top.

Wait what? John Henson? Biyombo
Future considerations?
Pump the brakes. An over reaction for sure. We are a young team and we brought Frye in for veteran presence and to stretch the floor and hit the open 3 as he is doing better actually percentage wise so far from last year (over 40%) also to mentor young Tobias to some might not know they're blood first cousins.
We did not sign him to be a defensive stopper or to do more than what he is capable of. He is 31 yrs old I am pretty sure Henny knew exactly what he was getting when they signed him.
Frye regardless of his stats and how he performs with this young squad he is still a very much rarity in this league a stretch 4 that could consistently hit the 3 and also play spot minutes at Center.
A little food for thought he is #2 in the league behind Patrick Patterson (no coincidence he was our first choice prior to signing Frye) in 3pt percentage for PF's hitting it at a better rate than the likes of Ryan Anderson/Kevin Love/Mirotic
Us as fans tend to lose sight of players real purpose on a team and expect every player to be an instant steal but in reality he is doing exactly what he was signed for and at a better rate than last year, can't really ask for more.
With all that said I am not denying the fact that I would be mad if we traded him but not for the likes of Biyombo where we have an exact similar player in Dedmon that's significantly cheaper and still has 2 yrs to his deal or John Henson where he does block a lot of shots but he's not a great defender.
I also agree we need front court help and a "shot blocker" but remember we have our 18 yr 4th pick that's about to come back from an injury that specializes in exactly what we need. We as Orlando fans have to be patient and trust in Henny.
But back to the immediate subject I would do the following trade with Toronto...and that's probably an over pay.
Patterson
Fields
for
Frye
Harkless
Orl 2nd

Harkless isn't a big enough piece to go from Patterson to Frye. Like someone said Patterson is hiring the 3 at a better rate and I feel is the better defender.
Moe looks like he has the potential to be a good two way player in the James Johnson or Thad Young mold but I heard some Orlando Magic media personal calling him lazy and saying he doesn't have a high motor.
With all that being said I would take what we have and try to make a push for a defensive 4 or 5

I'd like him on GSW, But I don't know if there's a deal that could satisfy both.
What about Portland???
They could use some center help. Portland could play 4 out 1 in with Aldridge when Frye and him play alongside each other and a Frye/Lillard pick-n-pop would be killer....
That actually makes a lot of sense, Frye would be really nice on that team although I don't know what the cap ramifications are.
Something based around Mccallum for Frye might work.

I would defiantly do the following with Portland...
McCollum
Robinson
(Throw in) Claver/Crabble
for
Frye
Harkless

Uhm, maybe it's just me, but for a 31-year-old owed $32 million over four years, averaging 9/6 with under a block per36...
I'll pass. Thought it was an overpaid deal then, don't understand why anyone would want him now.

Pistons fan here and.....maybe in the summer, but not right away in the summer. Couldn't look at it before then for every reason in the book. Same thing I just said in the Hickson to Detroit Thread.

Frye+Harkless
for
Landry/Williams
Kings gets a guy to both back-up Cousins and provide spacing for him, plus gets a look at Harkless as incentive for taking on the bigger contract.
Magic save on longterm money while maintaining a veteran presence on the front-line.

Except Frye makes WAY more sense than Hickson. Both as a 3-point threat while also maintaining some size, but also because Hickson is horrible.

Frye is still a decent player...as ESPN's Kevin Pelton points out, there's a big difference playing pick-and-pop with Goran Dragic and Eric Bledsoe, and playing pick-and-pop with Elfrid Payton and Victor Oladipo. The idea was that he would help the Magic's young guards develop but his game is at least as dependent on them as theirs is on him. Those guys are talented but they're still learning to play basketball, so some drop-off for Frye was inevitable.
That said, I thought the Frye contract was an overpay at the time and still think so now. If the Magic do want to move him, the market is going to be limited by that, and Orlando will likely have to take some salary back.
(He actually would be a good fit in Utah`s offensive system, but I`m concerned by the size of the contract and the fact that our guard play isn't yet good enough to fully take advantage of him either.)

I get that, but offense isn't why Frye is my least favorite player. The guy doesn't give an resemblance of effort on defense. I don't know if it's age or complacency with his contract but it's pretty frustrating.
