[LAC/DEN/TOR] Wilson Chandler | Jamal Crawford | Terrance Ross | LAC removes 1st round pick protection

LAC receives
Wilson Chandler
Reacquire LAC 2017 1st
DEN receives
Terrance Ross
Lucas Nogueira
2016 LAC 1st (unprotected)
Toronto receives
Jamal Crawford
2018 LAC 1st (unprotected)
Reasons
LAC go all-in on winning a chip with their current core. They reclaim their 1st in 2017 but convey their 1st in 2016 and 2018 instead. Its an overpay but Chandler is the final piece and a better wing than anything they currently have, who can also play as a small ball 4.
DEN move forward with their eventual rebuild and get value for Chandler in the form of Ross, a wing prospect with upside who's on a restricted contract. In addition to that they receive an unprotected 1st round pick in 2016.
TOR move on from Ross in return for immediate help. Jamal Crawford replaces Lou Williams's bench production from last season without a long term contract commitment beyond 2016. In addition to that they receive an unprotected 1st round pick in 2018.

Luke Ridnour was already waived on the 9th. He's a free agent.
Otherwise, keep the 1sts lotto protected. Toronto gives up a 2017 protected 1st for either 2016 or 2018 1st. The Nuggets may want a 1st earlier, but maybe not, if they're ending up with Ross and saving some cash, too. Who knows.

Oh, then I'll replace him with Lucas Nogueira.
I figured Denver would want the earlier one since a lot of their guys come off the books in 2016.

I'd probably be down with that. The pick is a bit (just a bit) lower than I'd expect but getting a look at Ross makes up for that.

Leaving those picks unprotected is way too high a price for Chandler.

Its the only way to give both Denver and Toronto a 1st round pick. I'd much rather do that than have the 1st tied up until like 2022. That's what would have to happen if they were lotto protected like Scoot suggested. Too long. For all teams involved.

Not that I'm complaining as a Toronto fan but 2 firsts and Crawford is extremely pricey for Chandler, especially considering he's an expiring deal.
But hey, If the Clippers want to do this then sure. Also, it's probably worth noting I don't think this trade works since LAC traded their 2017 1st to Milwaukee, which is now owned by Toronto.

Don't the Raptors already own the Clippers 2017 1st (lotto protected through 2019), making this deal impossible?

That is exactly why the Raptors have to be involved. You can change/remove the pick protections if the team you're trading with owns your pick and agrees to it.

But in your deal, I don't see a protection change or the Clippers reacquiring that pick.
You have the Clippers dealing their 2016 pick, their 2017 pick is owned by us and will likely be conveyed and then they're trading their 2018 first too? It can't work

No. Clippers get back their 2017 pick. 2016 to Denver. 2018 to Toronto.
Its in the reasons part. I should have made it more clear.

I would seriously consider this deal. Not a big fan of giving up another 1st rounder but Chandler would definitely help us. Taking off the protections doesn't bother me because Ballmer and Doc won't allow the Clippers to slip out of the playoffs in the next 3 years especially when you have Blake, CP, and DJ locked up. Solid trade all around.

Ah I see now. You should add that the Clippers are reacquiring their 2017 pick in the "Clippers Receive" section so that it's a little more clear.

No thanks for Toronto, not giving up Bebe (cheap centre prospect with 3 years left on his rookie deal), and moving our 1st Rd pick owed to us back a year until 2018... The difference between Ross and Crawford isn't significant enough to rationalize that trade... Would rather keep Ross' restricted rights (more control of a free agent)...
If we are moving Ross or picks it will be for a PF, and 2017 pick is more valuable in a trade than a 2018 pick... Only way that 2018 (unprotected pick) looks good is if Paul/Griffin bolt and if I am not mistaken they are locked in for 3 more years... Not enough value for the Raps...
Removing the pick protection does nothing cause LAC will make the playoffs in 2017...

Ross is coming back healthy and will most likely score 10-13 ppg and hit 39% of his 3s which is exactly what we need from him. I don't see the point of losing him to receive Crawford who is soon to be 36. Ross had two problems last season; he was playing through bone spurs in his ankles, and he was playing SF which isn't his natural position. Now he gets to come off the bench and play a position he's comfortable playing. This team doesn't need ball stoppers who don't play defense. That's why they got rid of Vasquez and they let Lou walk.

Unprotected first? Pretty hard to pass that up....this is a hard decision because we have no need for Jamal.

I don't think turning the lotto protected 2017 pick we own from the Clippers into a 2018 unprotected one (which will very likely fall in the same range) is worth trading Ross and Bebe. With Paul, Griffin, and Jordan, they'll still be a playoff team.
