BOS/NOP - Minor Move

Post#1 » by Smitty731 » Fri Feb 5, 2016 7:09 pm

Boston trades: David Lee and Minnesota 2016 First (in actuality this will be 2 Seconds)
Boston acquires: Eric Gordon

New Orleans trades: Eric Gordon
New Orleans acquires: Davis Lee and Minnesota 2016 First (in actuality this will be 2 Seconds)

Why for Boston? Lee is obviously done in Boston and has no value to them. He's just in the deal for salary matching. The Celtics give up 2 Seconds to add a shooter off the bench. They don't need the picks and no long term salary added.

Why for New Orleans? They don't need Gordon anymore, as they are slipping further and further out of the Playoff race. Lee has no value for them, but is necessary for salary matching. The Pelicans pick up 2 Seconds for a player they don't need or likely really want.

Ajinca is the only asset that I would like for the celts. Jerembko and a real 1st.

With Gordon injured it's probably the best New Orleans can do, so might as well.

There is no chance I would give up Jerebko OR a first for Ajinca. He's not good. The Celtics already have a better option in Zeller.

I like this deal. It's one of those smaller deals that makes sense that often get done.

yeah I'm totally on board with this. I essentially had this deal built into a larger one myself in the last week or so. I like Boston getting another shooter and I like the Pelicans getting another couple 2nds. They should then be able to move up into the late 1st using some of those high 2nds they will have.

Pels say yes Gordon isn't worth much and to get 2 picks for him would be fine.

Gordon is not good and the celtics are overloaded with guards - I think he's a DNP for a lot of celtics games

Considering this bumps Turner to primarily playing as the backup SF and adds a better shooter than almost anyone else on the roster, I'd have to disagree. He wouldn't be a huge impact, but it is definitely worth the gamble.

Change it to the best 2 of the Dallas, Miami and Cleveland seconds and it is a no brainer. That way both are this year and easier to package to package if NOP wants to

We need more shooting, and even if Gordon won't play a ton of minutes here, he adds another dimension to the team. If no bigger moves can be made, I'd do this 100%.

Yeah I like this.

Gordon is an accurate, volume 3pt shooter. Boston needs that and he's only 27.

I'd suggest that the Pelicans trade Eric Gordon to the Lakers for Roy Hibbert. That way there will be no more proposals involving either of those two players and the Celtics.

Makes perfect sense. Adds another shooter off the bench to go along with Smart and Turner, both of whom are mediocre jump shooters at best and clears up some of the pick back log, because let's face it there is no way Boston adds any second round picks over the next few years, there's just no room.

If boston or other teams have a lot of rounds doesn't mean that the team should give a round for a random players, injury prone players, unnecessary players or expirings. Gordon is 3 things of these 4 things, obviously less a random player.
Boston could do trade-up in a draft with second rounds or select players to do draft&stash

Agree I'd rather not add a defensive sieve in a contract year. They'd go from grumpy Lee on the bench to grumpy Gordon.

I'd rather take a flier on someone with more lifespan on their career.

I agree Boston could use the shooting but I wouldn't trade for any guard help unless it was a upgrade from Smart or Bradley or a young player with more than a year on his contract. Smart seems to be playing less minutes now even with his offense looking better and Gordon would have to cut into either Bradley's or Smart's time on the floor.

Turner already is playing "primarily back up 3"
