Taj to OKC

With news that Bulls are looking to move Taj and Mike D and OKCs need at PF:

OKC out: Ilyasova, McGary, Huestis, Singler, 2017 MEM 2nd

OKC gets a starter at PF and a couple veterans to balance the young roster. Worried a bit about the shooting here, but that defense would be stifling.

Russ/Payne/FA
Dipo/Dion/Foye
KD/Roberson/Dunleavy/Morrow
Taj/Sabonis/Collison
Adams/Kanter

CHI out: Taj, Dunleavy

Bulls get instant salary savings with Illys info deal, a good young prospect in McGary and a project in Huestis. Also swap he older Dunleavy for the younger Singler for the rebuild.

Not sure about Bulls chart

It feels light for the Bulls, but I like McGary more than most. You'd need to drop Singler, for sure.

foye definitely not coming back for sure but I like that line up. Sabonis would have to adjust quickly but we'd be fine

Taj can pull better than those scraps. A Kanter trade could make some sense.

I guess it comes down to how you value McGary, but exp Taj coming off a major injury doesn't pull a ton, I wouldn't think, esp with news they are shopping him being out there.

Unless OKC just screwed themselves by setting the market w Ibaka.

It's tough because OKC can't really trade a first and Payne is off the table.

I don't see the Bulls being into Kanter since they just got Lopez, unless Lopez is coming back to OKC. And I'm like warm on that.

Gibson doesn't fit for OKC. He needs to be in the paint to be effective and OKC needs more spacing not less. Gasol hasn't technically opted out yet. Get him to opt in then we'll give you Ilasova and McGary for him. I'll throw in Singler and/or Huestis if Chicago wants them. Dion isn't coming back to OKC, get that worthless player out of that depth chart. I feel sorry for whatever team is stupid enough to give Dion a contract. There is a reason Cleveland got rid of that bum when they wanted to win.

Presti has a lot more work to do this off-season. Has to find a starting PF, has to move Kanter, etc. It'll fun the next few weeks watching him retool the roster.

Gasol is going to opt out and doesn't want to be in OKC. PFs that can space and play D are rare, which is why Ibaka held so much value, not going to get that back. Dion might be back depending on offers.

Yep, Gasol isn't going to OKC, and I love the OP or the Thunder. Don't know if the Bulls do it, but OKC needs a defender at the 4 I'd hope. I'm hoping the plan isn't to start Ersan but I don't know, it may be.

I am thinking

Anthony Morrow, Mitch McGary, Ersan Ilyasova for Taj Gibson and Tony Snell

Now I have to marry this deal with Tyson chandler going to OKC

OKC gets:
Tyson Chandler- another defensive stalwart
Taj Gibson- effective powerforward in the last year on contract
TJ Warren- talent player who cant stay healthy

Philly gets:
Kyle Singler- throw in once decent shooter
Mitch Mcgary- really still high on him, getting on the cheap for taking on Singler
Archie Goodwin- combo guard may be can become John Salmons

Chicago gets
Jerami Grant swing player who can play the 4 and do things defensively, pairing himwith his twin
ANthony Morrow- shooter with expiring contract
Ersan Ilyasova- efficient outside stretch 4

Phoenix gets
Enes Kanter- I think he could surplant alex Len
Hollis Thompson- corner 3 point is good
Tony Snell- Athletic defender with good length ,Improved long-range shooter and finisher at the rim
rights to Alex Abrines

Chicago says no. None of those players will be in the league in 3 years. We'll trade Gibson if it provides us interesting assets back.

The Bulls don't want to stockpile players who can't contribute and aren't going to get better. Besides that they are a net gain of 2 players and they have at least a backup PG and Center to find with $24 million in cap space. So they'd end up having to cut some, maybe most of the guys they get in this deal.

For the record McGary is a good player and would def contribute, although the front court is a bit crowded.

We don't have cap space to absorb that much return salary. And in any case, I wouldn't send Payne unless the assets in return are a significant overpay.

I think that is an overpay.
If Thunder sign Waiters, Payne will rot on the bench.
The difference in salaries is maybe 2m if i calculated correctly. You cqan throw in huestis without much
Swap of prospects that showed about the same, Taj is a solid fit, defender, hustle player.
You turn 3/4 players you won't use into Taj and swap a prospect.

Why bother resigning waiters when you have cam cost controlled for 3 years and he fits more if a need anyway?

Kyle Singler is owed $5 million a year for 3 to 4 more years. He's not value added in the deal.

Ersan won't help the Bulls since Mirotic offers the same skill set and more.

The McGary and Huestis will waste roster space to be honest.

Not an enticing enough deal. Ideally Bulls should be looking for a mid to late 1st round pick in return. They may not get that since Taj's deal is expiring.

Payne will get playing time, and Huestis and McGary may as well, depending on what other moves Presti makes.

No way I do this if I'm OKC. Taj is on decline and Huestis is coming on strong. We didn't put this much work in to him just to trade him. Unless Presti is sure that a trade would for sure put them over the top, I don't see it happening.

Ilyasova fits better on offense and isn't bad on defense. He moves his feet well and he will be in better shape under our training staff.

I'm comfortable with smaller traded to bolster our bench and maybe add some veteran depth and leadership. Think VC. We could still use a back up SF in case Huestis doesn't pan out.
