ORL/NOP/HOU: This may be way off

Post#1 » by K_chile22 » Thu Feb 9, 2017 7:02 am

Orlando out: Serge Ibaka, Domjan Rudez
Orlando in: Solomon Hill, KJ McDaniels, Houston 2017 1st, Tim Frazier

Get a kinda young 3-D wing prospect on a fair deal, especially for what Orlando can get with their space, a flier on KJ, a young pg who has shown flashes, and a late 1st for someone who will likely walk

NOP out: Solomon Hill, Tim Frazier, Quincy Pondexter
NOP in: Montrezl Harrell, Corey Brewer, Denver 2017 2nd, Houston 2019 2nd

Get a young and talented center who fits with AD and can anchor the D with him out, trade away ~3.6 mil in totally dead salary for ~7.5 mil in kinda dead salary, trading away a guy who hasn't quite fit in Hill, and their 3rd guard who's fallen out of the rotation for a pair of 2nd rounder. Pelicans also open up 14.5 mil in space, including Jrue's cap hold, which can extend to nearly 20M by stretching brewer or declining Galloway's option, and over 25M by doing both.

Houston out: Montrezl Harrell, Corey Brewer, KJ McDaniels, Hou 2017 1st, Denver 2017 2nd, Hou 2018 2nd
Houston in: Ibaka, Rudez, Quincy Pondexter

Get Serge Ibaka with bird rights without sacrificing too much from the rotation, gain cap flexibility paying to move Brewer's contract for a smaller contract of the same length.

That's too good for the Pelicans, they need to attach picks for a simple Hill/Brewer swap, not getting picks.

No. They don't. Hill has quietly been effective. He is only 25, rebounds well, is a good defender and hitting around 35% from 3, which is decent. His contract is fine. Brewer is bad.

IMO the biggest cognitive error in NBA last summer was Solomon Hill was a good defender, I do watch his Pacers games, he is a league average defender as good as Cory Brewer, and he is still on that level now. He is on a bad contract worth over 40 million.

Personally, I don't agree that Hill's contract is fair and think he's overpaid. Frazier is nice but between Payton's improvements, DJ Augustin being under contract for a few more years, and our likely draft position with the number of top prospects in this draft that are PG's I personally don't have much interest in using any of our assets on PG prospects. Then I don't put much if any value in KJ McDaniels and a pick that is currently 27, even in this strong draft, so I wouldn't do this deal.

New Orleans sucks away too much value to possibly make this work for Orlando.

These Ibaka deals seem to get worse and worse.

Lets break this down..

- Solomon Hill (One of the top 5 worst contracts in the league sporting a cool 7.9 PER)
- KJ McDaniels (Horrid shooter that's simply a filler and shouldn't be considered anything more than that)
- Tim Frazier ( Leaves Orlando with not 1 not 2 not 3 but 4 PG's and probably 5 PG'S after draft night).
- Houston 1st (Currently 27th) also be known Orlando already owns picks 33 AND 35

This trade makes absolutely no sense on so many fronts.

Guess Hill is worse that I thought. I thought he was a pretty productive player. Scrap this deal then!
