Orlando Magic get:
Isaiah Thomas

-The Magic have been rebuilding for a long while now and need to land some win-now talent to make a playoff push sooner rather than later.

Huh? Thomas has ONE yr left and then is a UFA, that alone IMO makes this a bad deal for Orlando, add to that if he needs surgery that injury "can take" a long time to recover from, easy no IMO from Orlando

Also considering what we just went through with the Ibaka trade I imagine we'd be even more reluctant to trade our draft pick for a win now player on an expiring contract.

It feels like I'm starting to kick him while he's down, but I think that is overvaluing Thomas.

Why wouldn't Orlando just take Monk, Smith or Fox instead? Also, draft picks are insanely cheaper than the 20 million or so in salary Thomas would demand.

This isn't really good for Boston or Orlando. The Celtics would be taking a pretty big step back. No matter how high you are on Fultz, he's not going to anywhere near as good as Thomas for at least a few years.

For Orlando, they aren't going to add another big time guy who is in the last year of his contract. And they don't have the defensive infrastructure in place to compensate for Thomas' lack of defense.

Both sides need to pass.

1. Isaiah Thomas is re-signed by the Celtics in 2018.

2. Isaiah Thomas leaves as a free agent in 2018.

3. Isaiah Thomas is traded prior to the 2018 trade deadline.

As a Pistons fan, I hate Boston, but I'm sick of these trades where IT4 is somehow worth a likely bust. If IT4 were on a max deal, he would be worth more than everyone in this draft other than Fultz, who as it turns out Boston doesn't need to trade for.

IRL, teams like proven players (especially 2nd team all-pros) more than 6th picks.

And why do people think Fultz + cap space (+ Zizic and Yabu) are somehow not worth going at Lebron again next year?

If Ibaka was still here I would easily entertain this, but in our current position I MUCH rather have control of one of Fox/DSJ for five years than one year of Thomas (this is coming from a Thomas fan and genuinely think he's the kind of player we need IF we were competing).

Orlando is the last team that should do a deal like this.

Most likely is #1, assuming they can come to agreement on something less than the max. If not, I would say it is #2. I find #3 hard to believe because Ainge won't find what he considers to be equal or greater value.

The reason I'd look to trade IT is that he seems to be exploitable on defense, it seems like teams have figured out how to play him. I'd trade him now or with the cap space that boston has extend him for 3-4 yrs then look to trade him either at the deadline or next summer.

He could bring enough from the right team for the Celtics to then go after another scorer. They could use Smart at pg while Fultz develops and use the assets acquired from the IT trade to get a Jimmy Butler or Paul George if they are on the market.

I was thinking of a different deal between Boston and Orlando where Orlando gets the better individual player and Boston gets an all defense-no offense player and an all offense-no defense player.

Al Horford for Bismack Biyombo and Nikola Vucevic

1. Would the Magic value Horford enough to consolidate at center?
2. Would the Celtics (and Coach Stevens) be able to manage the separate skill sets of Biyombo and Vucevic in a way that is more beneficial than just keeping Horford?

Goodness no. This would be awful for the Celtics. They built a large part of the offense around Horford's skills. Vucevic doesn't do what Horford can do. And then they just end up in the same spot at Orlando with two guys who are unhappy splitting time.
