What will Isaiah Thomas sign for next offseason?

Post#1 » by MoneyTalks41890 » Thu Aug 10, 2017 6:57 pm

Pick how much you think he'll get and comment which team you think he'll sign with.

Also, fyi, he's a 7-9 year vet so his max is 30% of the salary cap, so with next year's projected cap a little over 30 million per.

I wouldn't vote for it, but there should be a "five year max" option.

I'll go 120/4.

He'll get 4 years, $120 million based on the Lowry contract recently.

He's going to sign some ridiculous contract that will forever be known as Danny's folly.

I'm not sure how many years, but I think he will definitely get a max next summer.

I went with 4 years for $100 million b/c that's his absolute limit if he doesn't sign with Boston.

5/150 (worst case 120/4) and he's worth it. Look at what jrue got paid and they aren't even comparable as players.

Yeah one of them can defend the position.

Yeah one of them can defend the position.

And one of them is an elite offensive player which is far more important from a point guard . It's not like jrue is even a top 30 defender so your reasoning doesn't really make sense.

One guy provides something elite the other doesn't provide high end of any aspect of basketball.

Thomas is at worst top 10 offensive player (he's 7th or 8th). Jrue would be lucky to be top 20 anything.

I guess Kyrie isn't worth max but pat Bev is because thats essentially what you're saying.

4/120 with the last season being partially guaranteed

Yeah one of them can defend the position.

And one of them can score at a clip above 'below-average' efficiency. The difference between IT and Jrue on offense > the difference between IT and Jrue on defense.

For contracts, I see 4-120 with the last year a player option.

4/120 minus the partial guarantee. I think a team option on that final season is more appropriate basically making it worth 3/90.

For the most part, I really like what Ainge has done. But, the risk associated with giving IT a huge contract is why he should have been motivated to make a deal for one stud. Maybe he does a deal for Kyrie (but $$ matchup is difficult).
The Boston cap situation went form flexible to locked up.

He will be 28 when he signs? I voted for 4/100, it will be his last chance at a big deal so I suspect money will talk. I would say 50/50 he resigns with the Celtics.

3 years $90 seems fair if he plays at an all-star level next season (tough to predict that for a tiny guy coming off a major hip injury). I don't see a 4 or 5 year deal turning out well for the team who gives it to him. I have my doubts about a 3 year deal, but you have to believe he'll get that much somewhere.

Not on the list but I think 3/100. Same what Lowry got. Maybe add an unguaranteed 4th year.

I think dude deserves to be paid for what he has done for the franchise (they wouldn't have Horford or Hayward without him) and for how underpaid he was past few years. However, players rarely get what they deserve for past accomplishments. I think IT could be insulted though even if Celtics give an offer around what other teams would offer so I think they'll have to overpay him if they want to keep him. I could see Ainge playing hardball though.

To help narrow down on his value what other teams would likely be willing to give IT a competitive offer and what alternatives do Celtics have if they don't sign IT (although they don't have much cap space since ITs current contract is so small)? Celtics would've had a much better bargaining position had they kept #1 pick and taken Fultz.

Other free agents aren't great outside of Westbrook (player option) and Paul but if Celtics could get either that would be a huge win. Celtics could try to bring back Bradley if negotiations with IT go sour or if Smart takes a big leap this year they could just promote him. I think IT will definitely make 20+ mill per year but at that price I can't really think of another team he'd really make sense with. Nuggets I think are closest but they'd have to make moves to clear the space and would probably want a team-friendly deal like Millsaps with three years with a team option on 3rd year. A bad team could overpay him but given he'll be 29 by next summer I think it would be a foolish move. IT really doesn't have much leverage.

4/90 with player option on the 4th year. voted 4/100 because that was the closest.

I'll bump this when I'm right, but 4/80.

20 mill per year for an all-star player. So much knowledge about NBA contracts.
