Week 4 Trade Challenge: The Pursuit of Spurfection

Post#1 » by loserX » Tue Aug 15, 2017 7:58 pm

Presenting the Week 4 Trade Challenge!

PLEASE NOTE: Week 3's Challenge, Fix the Bulls, is STILL OPEN FOR VOTING! If you haven't voted yet, please feel free to go here https://forums.realgm.com/boards/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1606613 and pick your favourite!

As always, if you win this week's challenge you get bragging rights...and to mess with the Mods! Pick one and give him a sig or avatar for the week...nothing *too* offensive, please :D

This week's challenge:

The Spurs are a tremendous organization and a challenger in the West every year. But this offseason, they've watched the mighty Warriors reload, the Rockets add Chris Paul *and* pursue Melo, the Thunder add Paul George, Minnesota land Butler, Denver grab Millsap...

Meanwhile, the Spurs have added:
a post-Achilles injury Rudy Gay
Joffrey Lauvergne

Welp. Meanwhile, Aldridge is an imperfect fit and most of the rest of the team just gets older and older. As the saying goes, if you stand still while everyone else moves forward...you're going backward.

This is no way to spend a year of Kawhi's prime! Your challenge:

Add ONE impact player to the Spurs.

Off the table:
Kawhi Leonard, because Kawhi
Manu Ginobili S&T, because he wants to come back and they're not going to do him like that

On the table:
everything not Kawhi or Ginobili. Players, prospects, picks, even future capspace. It's all available to get the Spurs another piece.

("Impact player" is intentionally left vague, and the Spurs aren't a team that we see many big trades for. So looking forward to you guys being creative!)

Feel free to post any questions in this thread! PM your proposals to me before Monday, August 21st. Entries will be posted anonymously so please do NOT post your entry in this thread!

Thanks...and have fun!

The silly thing is that the Spurs are still going to have 60+wins this season, because you know, Spurs.

Question though, are recently signed players tradable?
Rest in peace Mamba. There'll never be another Kobe.

Nearly all Rookies should be eligible now, but I'm curious if regular FAs can be included too! :D

Tony Parker not off limits? You think they'd do Tony like that?

Im a little confused on the rules for this one too - does this mean we can't add more than one player to the Spurs roster?

What if I wanted to move say 2-3 Spurs for 2 players from another organization?

I'm actually going to say you can choose either now or later, when FAs can be traded.

What's the catch? Remember to make your trade LEGAL AT THE TIME YOU CHOOSE. Want to make a pre-season deal? Okay, but then no one can trade recently signed FAs. Want to make it at the deadline? Fine, but remember that teams have very strict roster limits then that you must account for. No 7-for-2 deals!

Keep it legal, and make it realistic...part of the challenge :D

That is of course fine, you can add multiple players if that's the deal.

What the challenge is not: "Trade 90% of the Spurs roster in order to add 4 new all-star starters to the roster."

Previous challenges have been grand in scope so I'm dialing it back just a little; the idea is to target one "impact player" and bring him to the Alamo.

Step 1: bring Timmay out of retirement
Step 2: Profit?

I think you need to put more limitations on this - the Spurs FO is very conservative with money - I can't see them agreeing to a deal that would have them paying the repeater tax .

I'm not going to PM but I like a rebuilding team taking a risk on a Nets/Celtics type haul, so something like Parker and 3 unprotected 1st rounders for Bledsoe and a 2nd rounder. Suns gets picks to use in trades or maybe a Kawhi injury gives them a lottery one at some point and a mentor for their young guys, and the Spurs get an impact guard.
Where's the D?
