I like this for them. They clearly believe in him, and if he develops, he's on a great deal.
If not, he's a little overpaid but locked up and movable.

McD with a great move. $12.5M a year for an efficient scoring SF/PF. Even if he does end up as a backup to Jackson and/or Chriss, its still a great deal. Love it!

That is a lot of money for a guy at a position they just drafted a guy #4 at. Josh Jackson might play small ball pf, but this is a big commitment to Warren when a scoring sf like Shabazz just got a min deal and next summer's market looks even tighter.

If Warren breaks out this is a great deal, it definitely has the potential to be a big win or a big loss either way. But I would have taken that deal as his agent and smiled. And I wouldn't have gone above 10m as Phx (and I would have set that up as declining).

Year 3 and 4 being partially guaranteed or nonguaranteed/TO in year 4 would make me like it better for Phx.

I'm a bit more skeptical. This is starter money, and I just don't see him as a starter on a good team.

Granted, maybe he improves to the point where he's worth the deal. That's always the issue with rookie contract extensions. You're not paying for the current player, you're paying for what you expect them to become.

I actually don't mind it. He has enough potential to totally make this contract a steal in a year or so.

Good deal for both. Maybe slightly overpaid but I like his game. Really smooth offensively.

I'm pretty meh on this signing. I don't know why teams assume the risk like this on players who aren't locks to get better offers as RFAs.

Yeah I would've thought closer to minimum next summer and certainly not enough to where matching $50M was an issue. So good for him but hate it for PHX who desperately needs non-scoring halfcourt production.

The biggest knock on him is his shooting right?
Can he share the court with Josh Jackson and a big that can't shoot?

Am I the only one who thinks he's not worth it? He seems like an empty numbers guy on a bad team. He's definitely a poor defender. The on/off, BPM & RPM numbers don't seem to like him very much.

As stated the Suns value him highly. Now we see the evidence. Suns had more incentive to do this since he will have more minutes this year and build off a great resume.

Not really his shooting, but more so his 3 point shooting.

I'd take Warren on 4/$50M over Wiggins on 5/$148M anyday of the week.

The Player Comparison speaks volumes.

If Warren works on his 3 point shot, he will be amazing.

Great contract for the Suns IMO. Well done McDonough.

Really good player already, if he improves a little bit more over the next few years his contract is gonna be a complete bargain.

Solid for both as long as Warren can stay on the court. Hard to pinpoint Warren's value right now. I'd say he's an 8-9M caliber player right now with the potential to become a 13-14M caliber player. So the Suns are paying a little more than they need to just in case Warren blows up next season.

The Wiggins deal being awful doesn't make the Warren deal not bad.

No but when you compare the two stat wise, and see how overhyped Wiggins is and how underrated Warren is (Specially on RealGM), it really puts things into perspective. One guy is getting $12M and the other guy is looking at $29M a season. Hell, just today i saw a trade offer on here with us getting 2 future 2nd round picks from OKC and Singler for Warren. Like really?

Cutting out the Wiggins discussion (when he signs that will go there), that link doesn't show me anything to suggest that Warren is underrated.

I see a guy who is bad defensively.
Who doesn't significantly create for others or have 3 point range to help team offense.
Who is a below average rebounder for sf's.
And who can bench score, with almost average efficiency.

That is a one trick in one of the most replaceable skills, and not someone I have worth 12.5m.

Comparing with Wiggins feels more unfair than comparing with Shabazz: http://bkref.com/tiny/jIcNe

I think Warren is a good player but like you said, they just picked Josh Jackson and last year picked Bender who was suppose to be an SF.
