KOTB: Portland Belinelleaping out of the tax (0 Points)
If you believe both teams would accept this trade, vote yes. If you believe otherwise, vote no. Please explain your vote.
Portland out: Meyers Leonard, top half protected 2018 1st
Atlanta out: Marco Belinelli
Portland gets out of the tax, gets out of Meyers dead salary, and get a wing shooter they really need.
Atlanta eats some dead salary to get a first round pick.

Edit: just realized nearly this same trade has already been entered in KOTB, so nevermind

oh my god k-chile, the pun in your title is like catnip to the mods here...like waving a red flag and saying 'beat that'! The bad pun gears in the minds of hartford and chuck are churning right now...notice they have already commented...they've noticed and they will react! trader joe will be along shortly
anyway, as to your trade, as a Blazer fan, my first question is about the protections on that 1st. You only list 2018..what happens after that, assuming Portland has a top-15 pick this season, is pretty important. For instance, I wouldn't want that protection to decrease substantially in subsequent years; I also would not want the encumbrance to last more then a couple of years....Portland has too much roster work ahead to take away that trade asset for multiple years
provisionally I'd vote yes, but then again, I'd need to see those protections. Atlanta would not be getting a top-10 pick for this, IMO

given how this season is going so far I'm voting no because I think we could head towards more of a blow it up or major revamp later this season as opposed to a trade like this, therefore trading a 1st rd pick I don't think should be done

If Belinelli weren't an expirer I'd vote yes, but he is expiring, and I'm against using the first for just a rent. I'm only keen on using the first to dump Meyers if it saves immediate salary and nets us a role player that can stick around 2-3 years.

The good news is that Belinelli is hot garbage about 80% of the time, so you'll be able to retain him cheap.

Before I vote, what are the protections on picks in years after this one?
This is important for Atlanta since that contract is a very bitter pill to swallow, even with the first.

This year, next year, then becomes their two seconds they have coming from LA/Min (best of the two) in 2019 and Miami's 2021

Re: KOTB: Portland Belinelleaping out of the tax
Paul Allen is disgustingly rich and he loves the draft. I don’t see him signing off on another deal trading a 1st (see Aaron Afflalo) unless it makes the team significantly better. This trade does not accomplish that

I'm going to vote No, Portland does not seem to be in a mode of forgoing the draft for cost savings.

Re: KOTB: Portland Belinelleaping out of the tax
I would rather just let Leonard rot at the end of our bench for a another few years than be forced to add a 1st to drop him. That contract won't be so expensive or hard to move once it becomes an expiring.
