Suns get their PG of the future to pair with Booker, Lakers get out of Deng's deal to bi bigger spenders in 2018 FA

You are going to anger the Laker fans with this one.

While the Suns were rumored to like Ball ahead of the draft, I don't think this deal Dengs negative value enough into account. PHX will have other options in the draft that will be comparable to Ball (Sexton, Duvall...). Also, James won't be able to be traded likely until early February since he is likely to sign his regular NBA contract here in a few days. Beyond all of that LA won't give up on Ball this quickly.

Lakers already moved Russell to cut salary, I can't imagine them also moving Ball unless they know for a FACT that they're getting multiple top-tier players AND that the only way to accomplish that is to attach Ball to Deng.

Just way too much risk. They could end up clearing all that salary and then end up with Brandon Ingram and not much else.

as of now, i don't think any of the 2018 pgs are at the same level as ball

as of now, i don't think any of the 2018 pgs are at the same level as ball

I'm afraid that Ball is setting the level pretty low right now. Not only that but the numbers definitely favor Collin Sexton overall. Lonzo may be a better passer, but Sexton and Duval have plenty to be confident about in comparisons to Ball.

This kind of thinking happens every season, we over value college stats, which don’t remotely translate to the nba game, and crap on the struggling rookies. Fact is rookies, especially guards and wings, are going to struggle when they are just 19 or 20 in the nba. Their bodies aren’t physically mature enough yet, each of these college players today are going to come in next year and struggle as well. Then people will start talking about how much better the next college class is playing, rinse and repeat every season. College stats are meaningless compared against nba statistics, the games, the style, the level of competition aren’t remotely comparable.

I see absolutely no way that Phoenix would do the above trade.

I don't know if Phoenix would even do just a swap of Booker for Ball.

Correct, Booker is pretty much untouchable. Ball hasn't really lived up to the hype but he has shown some promising signs and is young, so there is hope for L.A. I would trade Chriss and the MIL pick for Ball, but that's about it. I don't think his market is that high right now.

Look, its not that complicated. Teams have guys that are untouchable. Booker is untouchable for the Suns and Ball is untouchable for the Lakers.

No-no, you compare Balls college stats to Sextons college stats then look at Balls stats now and you can quickly see what I am referring to. Sexton so far is having a much more productive college season than Ball did last year. Does that mean he will be a monster force when he joins the league? No, but it means statistically speaking he has a better chance then Ball right now. Ball needs to fix that shot badly. For a basketball oriented family that has obviously played the game a lot, to have something as obvious as that slip through the cracks is a smudge on the quality of tutelage and leadership coming from Lavar and the system he has brought his boys through.

Lonzo needs to put in the work. If you read above I also said that LA would not give up on Ball so quickly.

This may be true, and I think it is, but let's not conflate the value of the two right now and somehow say they are equal. I don't think any GM in the league would rather have Lonzo Ball than Devin Booker right now. We can review this again in a few years and maybe Ball will have fixed his shot, then this conversation will look more on the level.

I mean I guess, I’m not sure what you can gain from stats against Memphis, Lipscomb, Alabama A&M, UT Arlington, and BYU. He hasn’t even gotten to SEC league play yet, he has gotten to feast on a lot of bad basketball teams with no European level prospects much less nba level prospects.
