Cavs/Magic

Post#1 » by durka » Wed Jan 17, 2018 3:52 pm

Tristan Thompson+2017 2nd round pick for Biyombo.

Both have 2 years left at similar salaries.

Biyombo is the elite rim protector the Cavs have been looking for and just as good of a rebounder. He's proven to be a guy who can make an impact when given the minutes and can anchor a D. He was superb during Toronto's run to the ECF 2 years ago (hence the massive contract)

Not sure what the incentive is for ORL. If it was JR Smith, who makes less next year and has a partial guarantee the follow year I think Orlando would have more interest. But not sure that makes sense for CLE from a roster balance perspective.

Yeah you may be right. Was just watching the Magic game last night and realized that the Cavs could get a guy who provides a lot of what DAJ does for a fraction of the cost and keeps them the Brooklyn pick. If I were them I'd be willing to even throw in their own first this year instead of the second.

It's not a flashy move, but it's one that I think would pay huge dividends for them. He's obviously not a comparable finisher to Jordan, and even Thompson is a better offensive player, but you're getting a true defensive stud for a team that doesn't really need any more offence.

1. The 2017 draft already took place
2. Just seems like shuffling of deck chairs type of deal.

Yeah maybe so, but if they're really not willing to move the Brooklyn pick, it seems like shuffling is the only real option they have. Might as well get a deck chair who can play some defence to help out all those deck chairs who are totally incapable of it.

If the cost were only a second round pick, I'd probably do it just because sometimes a player can benefit from a change of scene. Biz is the better rim protector but you'd rather have TT in the PNR or switching out on a wing on the perimeter.

I do think that there's no difference between TT and Biz in terms of trade value. Biz has not had a good season in Orlando and he still has plenty of those games where, offensively, he looks like he put his hands on backwards. As limited as TT is offensively, Biz makes him look like Kareem.

As far as Fournier, everything I've heard is that Cavs aren't interested. They're looking to upgrade their current back court defensively.

Jarret Allen isn’t winning you anything. Garland won’t show up in the playoffs. Mobley is a glorified dunk man. Mitchell has some experience but is a liability on defense. To me, the Cavs are a treadmill team.

This does literally nothing for Orlando.

Orlando respectfully declines.

For our current team and trajectory I take Biyombo over Thompson and to be completely honest I much rather have Biyombo start for the foreseeable future than Vucevic.
PM me if you can help a brotha finally get an AVI.
