2018 Trade Board Mock Draft: Memphis (#4) selects Jaren Jackson Jr.

Post#1 » by HartfordWhalers » Fri May 25, 2018 10:58 am

The 2018 Trade board's mock draft so far:

1. The Phoenix Suns select DeAndre Ayton
2. The Sacramento Kings select Luka Doncic
3. The Atlanta Hawks select Marvin Bagley III

Which puts Memphis at #4 on the clock!

Please select one of the options from the poll above, and feel free to justify your choice in the thread. (And if for any of these picks you select a trade or "other", please be specific in the body of the thread. You may be able to convince others to your way of thinking!)

{The poll options read will, as this is supposed to be a prediction of what will happen. That said, if you think they should do something different, please include that in comments. For #1 we had a lot of 'will select Ayton but should select Doncic' for instance.}

Young - he is very special, absolute fun to watch, and no way a bust. We have enough bigs; just let them grow under Gasol. Porter is risky.

I think this is Porter. He can be a franchise wing and if he's healthy is a great bridge between win now and the future.

I think JJJ has high bust potential, and if they are keeping Gasol not seeing the raw, but extremely talented, Bamba is the move.

I would be disappointed if they considered Young this high.

Memphis is a team that has its best players getting old and doesn’t have the desire to break it up to rebuild. A team like that normally needs to be going for the player with a safe floor. I think it would be best to drop risk in there and go for the best ceiling. Michael Porter Jr. has the highest perceived ceiling of the players available. He comes with an injury question mark, with lowers his floor, but his floor is safe outside of that. He fits like a glove too.

Has to be Porter for all the reasons it should have been Porter for the Hawks.

I picked Porter, but what they should do is trade the pick and move salary. But that won't happen, so take MPJ and be happy with it.

Voted Jaren Jackson Jr. for the Hawks for fit. Here I'm going with BPA which I think is far and above - barring injury - Michael Porter Jr.

Voted JJJ but would go Porter depending on medicals. Porter would be third if healthy the whole year for me

I think this is where its get interesting. To me, the first 3 are set and exactly how RealGm voted. I think if healthy it would be Porter, if any question, It's JJJ. It's really a tough call, but I'm going the route that Memphis learned their lesson with parsons on taking risks on guys with injuries, so they go JJJ

Porter. Regardless of whether they are going to blow it up or keep going, he is exactly what the team needs.

I put Bamba (just cause I think you can grow him) But if not him, then JJJ for having all the potential in the world.

I went with trade down.

Reason being, they are very old team and think they can trade the pick for a package of young assets and picks.

Like something with LAC with their 2 picks and Tobias or something

Boston, Rozier and some combo of the 1st rounders they have

Suns getting Chriss and Warren #16 Miami’s future pick

I don't think you could really go wrong with Porter or JJJ. Porter gets the slight nod for me assuming no red flags jump out in the physical. Porter could be that 1A scoring option that can get it done on multiple levels and be the face of the franchise. JJJ could be a defensive powerhouse with a little unicorn in his game which could be attractive as well but I don't think is quite as sexy as a scorer.

Additionally although its very very early the 2020 draft class (I assume Memphis pick goes to Boston next year) look like it has several good big men at the top and no long versatile forwards like Porter.
