I would guess not, the players union would be livid lol it's the same as wink wink signing deals which are illegal, but hard to prove and no one tries to because both parties are happy. Rockets would just report that to the league and they'd probably do something like make Capela off limits to Sacramento for a year or somethingBallnIngram wrote:jazzfan1971 wrote:Now that Sacramento is the last team with major cap, they could try to get Houston to give them a pick for NOT giving Capela an offer.
Call Houston and say, 'give us a 2nd and we won't give Capela the biggest, hardest to live with contract we can.'
If I'm Houston I understand that might be a bluff, but I'm paying a 2nd anyway.

Any idea how many roster spots OKC has right now? Curious on the max amount of players they could take on in a Melo swap without waiving anyone.
13.. so they could do 3 for 1.
I'd offer Shump & Koufos for Melo, Abirines, future protected 1st. Thats 15 mil in salary plus the lux tax savings. So somewhere around 100M in savings

What assets does OKC have, though?
Denver just gave up a lottery protected '19 pick in exchange for more useful players making less money. Earliest FRP OKC can offer is, what, 2021? 2022?

if sac goes for capela then drafting bagley over luka would be an even bigger head scratcher. if capela gets paid way too much though, i would ask for willie as a s&t piece since he does a little bit of what capela can do. as long as willie accepts his role and not think he is a star then he will look good with harden and paul

I like the option "Wait to absorb" and expect the bids for their cap space will improve at the trade deadline, so I chose "nothing" with the "for now" clause.
I remember 11-30 with these guys. ^

Since SAC is win-later, the actual fit of a Capella signing wouldn’t hurt them as bad as some other teams, if they can make trades soon. Any player you can sign to a positive contract is an asset, and one way SAC could use the leverage of being the last team with money is to sign some good deals for some desperate free agents.
To me though, they may be able to make better profit by waiting

Other than the Wiz I’m not sure who is going to be trying to move salary then. Supply is down but so is demand.

I think there are only 5 teams over the luxury tax line (GSW, OKC, POR, TOR, and WAS) with the Rockets likely to join the group when Capela is signed. Of those teams I'm guessing GSW, OKC, and HOU won't be looking to shed salary leaving only POR, TOR, and WAS as teams who might be interested in trading assets to dump contracts. Maybe another couple of teams look to do a minor salary dump, but those would be small deals (no 1sts involved).

Nice of Sac to open up enough room to absorb Anderson with cap space.

They should just give a big one year offer to Rodney Hood.

RFA
They have to offer at least a 2 year deal and Cavs have right of refusal

Make the second year a team option or non-guaranteed?
That will do it, right?

Would have to be damn good compensation. Ball doesnt fit. At least Ingram or Kuzma would be needed to offset Deng. At which point, what are the Lakers giving the Spurs, who also have no interest in Ball?

Of course not. But you know, instead of threatening Morey, Vlade could actually work with Morey to get the Kings the asset. The Kings offer Capela a team friendly contract that the Rockets would love to match. Followed by a deal that is favorable to the Kings like an overpay for dumping Anderson. Of course, this is all highly illegal.

no idea, just throwing it out as a possibility for use of the space. doubt LAL would be trading players to SAC more like picks. As for SA, there hasn't been much in the way of credible information, so kind of a mystery who they would want or who LAL would be willing to give up.

No. 2 years guaranteed and 3rd year option but if so then Cavs will match. You have to poison the deal and make it hard for Cavs to match which might work against the offer sheet team.
