What should Washington do?

Given current playoff probability of 1.3% and now that Wall is out for an extended period of time, what should the Wizards plan be for 2nd half of the season?

Trade Porter to the Kings for McLemore and Z-Bo

Trade Wall (very inopportune time). Maybe this years first makes this possible.

Trade for future cap space with favorable deals.

Nobody wants Porter at he's owed, they might be able to trade Beal but not get value back why do teams want to bail out the WIZ for their bad moves? Why would anybody take their expiring contracts for cheaper ones without getting some at least second round picks. They might as well play who they have and see what it gets them

1) Fire Grunfeld
2) Trade Ariza/Green/Morris for 2nds/cap relief and hopefully get under tax
3) Miss the playoffs and get a top-7 pick
4) Re-sign Satoransky and Bryant (and maybe Dekker) -> build around

Wall/Satoransky
Beal
Brown
Porter(/Dekker)
Bryant/Mahinmi(/Howard)
+ 2019 1st

Nobody's trading for Wall right now. Porter's value is very low because he's also struggled with injuries and hasn't played well. Beal is valuable but no need to trade him unless they get a crazy good offer.

Edit: Also fire Brooks after the season because he's awful coach. Get someone who actually has a system and holds players responsible. Pray Wall recovers like Conley did.

Yeah my thought was dealing Ariza for a smaller contract for a lesser talent/contract (maybe Randolph?) and Morris for a lesser talent/smaller contract (maybe Mclemore?) without giving up 2nd round picks.

Washington is in a tough spot right now and it's hard to see any short-term solutions for them.

A fish rots from the head down, so perhaps a good place to start is to fire Grunfeld.

The second thing to consider is this season. Without Wall the chance to make the playoffs is slim, so they have to decide whether to try or not. I would argue they should tank and try to get a top 5 pick.

In addition to tanking they should look to cut their salary down if possible.

Otto Porter to Sacramento for expirings would be good for both teams.
Ariza, Morris and even Green could help a lot of playoff teams and possibly save them money and/or get them smaller assets.

Beal and Wall is a different story. One of them should go, Beal is the guy they should want to keep, but Wall's contract might be too difficult to get rid of.

I think they should try to move Wall, if they can. If Minnesota falls out of the playoffs maybe Wall for Wiggins. If Miami falls out, perhaps you can do a deal with them - Whiteside+Johnson/Waiters. If there are no deals out there, i think they should look at moving Beal.

Don’t think trading anything other than Porter is an option to get below the tax at this point, and is Porter damaged goods? What is the story on his health

I’d probably move Beal. He’s the only one that will bring back value and keep them from getting a high pick

Ariza for Koufas gets the Wiz under the tax and the Kings get a stop gap veteran SF to help with the playoff push.
Or in 2 trades do Dekker, Ariza for Randolph that way the Kings keep Koufos who is getting minutes.

The Ariza trade was just so stupid. Giving up on a young player like Oubre for a stop gap veteran was the last thing they should have done.

Should've tried to trade Porter/Morris first for cap-relief

I've seen some proposals for him and have to ask: Is his value really this low?

Beal & J.Green to MKE for Middleton, Brogdon, and Snell. Maybe Bucks throw a pick in?

Beal helps us because he's signed to an awesome deal. Green is a vet and also expires.

Middleton is an amazing player who I think will get close to $28-$32 million a year with his next contract. Wizards could if they don't want to pay him trade him maybe to Lakers for some of their young players.

Brogdon becomes the PG for ya this year.

Snell is a good defensive player.

I would also try to trade Ariza and get a draft pick for him.

I agree if you can trade Wall now even with him ving out for the season do it. Minnesota would probably be the team?

What they should do and what they will do is always different. Grunfield needs to go. I really feel for what Washington fans have gone through with him. At this point I'd want them to blow it up. Trade Beal for a lottery pick/prospects, move the expiring vets for smaller contracts to get under the lux tax, trade Porter to the highest bidder, and move Morris + Satoransky for picks/prospects.

They might be better without Wall, they were last season when he was out. If they are they could wait till next season and if he's playing well this time next year try to trade him. It's gonna be next to impossible to move him with that $37 million 1st year deal. But they might have to break it up into 3 or 4 pieces. Who would take him? Beats me.

Redick for Ariza, then Chandler, Fultz, Muscala, Smith and Mia '21 first for Beal, Morris and Green.

Philly would get their star without free agency and World be definitely a contender afterwards. DC get below the tax and some future assets

Which of these players do you consider quality future assets worth giving up Bradley Beal for? a failed early pick, an injured midround pick, and a 21 first from a competent franchise that will probably be a midround? That seems light.

What Washington SHOULD do is deal Ariza/Morris/Green for cap space to get under the cap for this year, shut down Porter until he is fully healthy, put Beal on a 30 mpg minutes restriction, and spend the year seeing if any of the youngsters like Troy Brown are legit NBA talent other than Bryant. Then fire Grunfeld and Brooks, find a competent GM and let him rebuild around Beal and Porter and move healthy supermax Wall if possible.

What Washington will probably do is start playing Beal 40 minutes a game, deal Porter and our 1st for a stopgap PG and some cap relief, and miss the playoffs but not with a really low pick. Then, the owner will bring back Grunfeld who will fire Brooks and bring in another coach who will find that the roster Grunfeld build has the same problems it has always had and we will be back as a second tier possible playoff team without championship aspirations if healthy yet again.

Seems like the best prospect they could get for Beal is Brandon Ingram.

Damaged goods...?

Following his hip injury during the rookie season Porter has played 74, 75, 80 and 77 regular season games prior to this year.

He's missed 12 games so far this season and is expected back within the week.

The Wizards aren't going to deal Porter for salary cap relief, it's an absurd notion that keeps getting parroted around here.

I didn’t say they would, if he’s without long term healthy issues. Just that he’s the only thing that would get them out of the tax IMO. Few teams have cap and ARiza/Morris ain’t enough. But Washington may pay it
