Dallas: Mike Conley + JaMychal Green (expiring)
Mem: Harrison Barnes + Dennis Smith Jr. + Powell (1 year left)

Dallas can push for this year playoff while clearing some space for TWO top free agents in 2019.

Memphis gets its future pg.

I kinda like it. Have my doubts about Smith (and Conley is hugely underrated) but as a soft-rebuild move it isn't bad.

I like it for both teams.

I think it's creative, and a good idea... Does it really make sense for the Dallas timeline to add a 30 yr old Conley to a 19 yr old Doncic?

I think he'd be a solid guy to have around Luka for his development. Helps that Conley's deal wouldn't overlap with a Luka extension so it wouldn't be as huge of an issue to continue to build around.

That seems like a fair assessment to me.

How does taking on Conley clear cap space for Dallas exactly? Barnes is opting out and Powell might as well.

I like Conley as a player, but I can't see Dallas taking on that contract and giving up DSJ in the process.

And let's assume I'm wrong about Barnes. Dallas can likely get off that contract this summer for less than DSJ and aren't locked into all that huge future money for Conley.

This deal is asking Dallas to take on all that huge financial risk and give up a prospect to do it.

Does Dallas have a T.O. on Powell?

Pairing JJJ with Dennis would be amazing for Memphis' future, but I really don't see it for DAL. Smith & Doncic have been playing well together lately and the trade-talk was massively exaggerated Imo.

I would not do this deal due to Conley's age. Also I don't like his contract enough to not want some more value coming towards the Mavs. $30+M is a ton of money for a 30+ year old PG who has missed 50+ games just a season ago.

We're in no rush. Or let's say we should not be.....you never know with Cuban unfortunately :noway:

Nope its a player option, but he's in the middle of putting up his 2nd straight season of highly effective play. Obviously part of it is the Barea effect, but he's essentially the most effective roll man in the entire league. Him opting out for long-term security should not be ruled out. Tho my guess is if he opts out it will be with the idea of signing a new deal in Dallas so not likely to help the cap situation much.

And yes I am aware how much I have killed Powell on this board for years. But he's found his role and he's really effective in it. But if he doesn't opt out, Dallas can move his last year without too much pain.

I don't think it's a bad trade. My only issue is Dallas doesn't really have any young talent to build around Doncic with after this though. I know certain people will hate this but how about fallowing up that moth with a Barrera for Rozier swap with Boston?

You shut your mouth. And spell JJ's name right. Show some respect to the legend.

I love Conley and he is the perfect backcourt mate next to luka as is jrue holiday but conleys age and contract make this a no go. Ive never been into paying max money to complimentary players unless they're the missing piece to a championship

Might be hard for Dallas to say no. Its not only a perfect match in play style, but also timeline.
Mavs would have Doncic, Conley, Powell, Brunson, and Spalding with 60M in cap space this summer.
Sign Deandre for a 2/22M deal and put the heavy pitch on KD & Leonard.

Selling point would be: Sign a max contract here and play with Doncic, Conley, Deandre for 2 years and contend. Then in 2021, Deandre and Conley expire while Doncic is still on his rookie deal.
So then you would have Doncic in his prime, KD, Brunson, Spalding, 2020/2021 1st round picks, and 50M in cap space to sign ANOTHER superstar.
Thats a 6 year run that would undoubtedly result in 1-2 rings.
I mean, they could wait until the summer.. but I guess Im just really down on DSJ and Barnes.

Don't understand calling Conley a complimentary player. He's good enough to be the second best player on a playoff team (he was two years ago, is at worst Memphis' second best player right now). I know people don't like his contract, but other than an injury (which hasn't seemed to affect him too negatively) he's earned it (IMO).

I think Conley is the most important player on the Grizz because he initiates basically all of our offense while playing decent defense. We also don't have someone who can cover his minutes as well as we do for Gasol so that probably skews my opinion some.

He's the second best player on a. 500 team that's the definition of complimentary piece

And if he played for LA he'd be the second best player on a team over .500.
