UTA/MEM/WAS Lets get wild.

Post#1 » by stitches » Sat Jan 19, 2019 2:41 pm

Heavy complicated trade idea incoming. Brace yourselves!

UTA trades 2 1st round picks, Dante Exum, Derrick Favors, Thabo Sefolosha, Ricky Rubio
UTA gets Mike Conley, Otto Porter

MEM trades Marc Gasol, Mike Conley
MEM gets 2 1st round picks from the Jazz(put whatever protection would make sense), Ian Mahinmi, Derrick Favors, Dante Exum

WAS trades Otto Porter, Ian Mahinmi
WAS gets Marc Gasol, Ricky Rubio, Thabo Sefolosha

Why for UTA: Utah replaces 2 starters by 2 players that better fit the roster. In essence this is an admission by the Jazz that they are not likely to get anyone better in free agency than those two and decision to use the capspace on those 2 players. Starting lineup of Conley-Mitchell-Ingles-Porter-Gobert gives a great balance between offense/shooting and defense.

Why for MEM: They decide to finally break up their aging duo and start over by getting a young guard in Exum, some future assets, Derrick Favors can also be flipped for more if they decide they wouldn't want to keep him past this year

Why for WAS: The latest news is that they don't want to trade Porter for future assets and they want to continue to contend for playoffs. This one gives them a better center than they've had recently and a starter at the PG while Wall returns. They also get depth at the wing in Sefolosha. All those are win now pieces. Clearing Ian Mahinmi is also a welcome bonus

Trade goes through on the trade machine: http://www.espn.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=y8yu7m9k

Thoughts? The minutiae of the trade can be re-worked(the picks protections, etc.)

I like it and Conley should be able to play off ball.
Ingles is cooked.

Curious to see what Washington fans say. It looks like a good deal for them to me.

I like it ok for Utah. Conley is expensive and aging. But he's a great fit if he is willing to keep playing through his contract.
In '03-'04, Jerry Sloan coached the ESPN predicted "worst team of all time" to 42-40.

The value is fine. The fit is wrong. The Wizards are satisfied with their centers for now, so Gasol doesn't entice. Neither does Rubio.

This. The net value seems to be right, but we get older, slower, lose depth, and push one of our best players (Thomas Bryant) to the bench.
No thanks

I see. Maybe we need a different 3rd team.

I'm looking at Mirotic or Tobias Harris for Utah. Maybe Kevin Love. Might need to adjust the number of picks for the different values. Would LAC or Pels be interested in Gasol?

Charlotte would be my third team? Biyombo and a pick to Memphis, Marvin or Lamb to Utah.. With Charlotte adding more value if it’s Marvin....

After the trade Utah still has Jae and Joe so they don’t really “need” someone as good as Otto/Harris and wouldn’t have to trade two future picks to get it. Conley and Mitchell will control the ball anyways.

I think Memphis would say yes to this deal, good value here

The value is fine?

This is terrible, why would Washington trade for 34 year old Marc Gasol and give up a valuable asset in doing so?

I'm not a huge fan for Utah. Like both of the players we get quite a bit, but between them that is half the salary cap. Also would like to keep Dante.
