Blazer Why: try a different direction — if that Lakers package is good enough for Davis than good enough for Lillard. They have 2 trade deadlines to see how MCollum works with new roster and if not they trade him for more locked in youth supplementing team. Plus have cap space 2020 offseason and plenty of assets for consolidation trade.

Why would the Blazers themselves not just try to get Davis. In fact it wouldn't cost them Lillard (they could have a core of Davis and Lillard and probably guys like Collins or Nurkic).

I am impressed with the "spin" of this offer. I didn't expect it and it appears to be feasible from both sides. Instead of New Orleans trying to do the fleecing, they instead get a different kind of superstar for their team.

While pretty close to fair I think NO would want some youth. Port I think wants to keep Lillard

And gamble one of the Laker young guys reaches the expected potential.

Absolutley not. The Lakers youth are low enegry role players moving forward. Portland would burn the stadium down if this deal went through.

And you say taking S.Hill like he is an albatross. Blazers have like 5 contracts expiring 2020 — Hill contract is neither longer in time period nor force Blazers in luxtax nor hinder their free agency efforts (being they have no cap space anyway).

Portland didn’t make Davis’s list. Would Blazers really risk such a trade and Davis bolts?? Then Lillard would be left with nothing. Would he bolt too (or demand a trade first)? Trading for Davis could cripple your franchise for like 10 years.

The only reason Davis will be traded for that package is because he is demanding a trade. What a flawed argument.

Worst case scenario, Portland could flip Davis in the offseason if they don't think they've made any progress with convincing him to sign long-term. Otherwise Portland is looking at likely remaining on the treadmill for the foreseeable future; I don't think taking a gamble on one of the top 5-10 players in the NBA is a bad idea for them all things considered.

D.O.A - Portland is not trading Lillard so the Lakers can get A.D.... nothing to see here... move along...

So Blazers get rid of Lillard, who I wouldn't give up for AD himself (because of connection to Portland, not saying he is better), and our reward would be watching the Lakers, who Blazers fans hate, pair up LeBron with Anthony Davis? This is a "Only when hell freezes over" trade for Portland fans.

AND you have the Blazers trading away Collins, who I would rate just about equal to any of the Lakers youth. This is supremely bad for the blazers.

Wow, very very bad deal for Portland. Honestly, really lackluster for them. They should turn this down quickly. I don't see them helping the Lakers get Davis while hurting their own team. They have no incentive to trade Lilliard, and this package doesn't change that.

For the Pels, I don't see them trading Davis for Dame. If they're forced to trade AD, they're going to get prospects, tear it down, and start over. I would expect that Lakers package, along with a bit more sweetener (why aren't they adding another first or two? Zubac) would actually be more appealing to them.

The Lakers obviously make just about any AD trade they can get. It's pretty apparent that they should be going all in, here...

If that trade would land Davis why hasn't it happened? I'll answer my own question, because it won't land Davis(and why you brought Portland into the trade to give the Pelicans the value they want for Davis.
Other problems with your logic and trade include
1) Just because a team is moving to rebuild does not mean they will accept a bad contract without being compensated for it
2) Besides Lillard you have Portland surrendering 3 other positive assets in Collins, Seth Curry and Layman. Admittedly the last two are only small positives but still positive value. Collins is a still very young and reasonably talented big
