You think Green is worth more than DFS and Maxi together?!

Danny Green is impossible for me to value correctly. First he re-signed with SAS on a deal well less than what I thought he warranted, then he was seemingly a throw in on the Kawhi deal.

But in theory I would say it's possible that his contract valuations aren't too bad. 2/32 doesn't seem outlandish for Green and while I like DFS and Kleber, I also understand their limitations and don't expect either guy to get major offers(tho maybe this is me being too optimistic and posters from outside Dallas see them as more valuable than I think they do?).

As for the MAvs I'd rather have DSJ+Kleber than just Green. I think. Or maybe I don't. Maybe I'd rather have Green. Green's probably more valuable but I admit I have a fans attachment to both those guys. If they are still around when Barea retires one of them will become the guy only I stans for. :D

Sorry this post isn't really helpful and I should have just let the new guy field it.

And yes Welcome mislavzmaj! I hope we see more of you around.

I think its more about pedigree,D.Green is proven starter on champions teams, guys like J.J.Reddick and Ariza got a lot money for one year.I think Green can get 1/20 or 2/32 from someone.
I like maxi and DFS a lot but they are both unproven role players, not very young(26 and 27y),they have some nice advance stat but thay dont put good counting stats (6p 4r per game). They are RFA so i dont believe someone will prioritize them. They also did not make lot money in career so i feel if dallas offer deal they will take it.

I dont know ,what you guys think ,what is fair deal for DFS and Maxi.
Thanks for welcome :)

I think there are three types of scenarios for Mavs to realistically consider, and I'll try to break down each one, starting with preparatory moves that are same for each one:

1) Renounce Nowitzki, Barea, Harris, Mejiri, Burke cap holds
2) Waive R. Broekoff
3) Renounce H. Barnes TPE
4) Draft: #37: Eric Paschall - hopefully ready now 3&D combo forward coming from a good program
5) Undrafted: there is high probability that one of these guards ends up undrafted: J. Bone, T. Davies, D. Jeffries, C. Martin, J. Konchar, J. Nowell, T. Mann - I'd take shot with any of them

At his point Mavericks have 32.5 mils in cap space (not counting 3 roster spot's cap holds since Mavs are going to fill out required number of spots without going over the cap), and they have cap hold on:

Porzingis: 17 mil
Finney Smith: 1.9 mil
Kleber: 1.8 mil

Now, Scenario #1, I' d call it Mavs PRO. Why? Well, Dallas decides to assemble deep and good fitting vet team to be as good as possible in next two year, not caring about the pick next year, but also not risking giving a good pick to Knicks in 2021. Also, hey start making a FA pitch for 2021, hoping for two good playoffs seasons:

Spoiler:
1) Sign P. Beverly to 2+1 (Team option) deal, for 12.5 mil per year.
(One of the most productive PGs at the moment and great fit with his shooting, defense, secondary plamaking and gritty attitude)
2) Sign J. Lamb to 2+1 (TO), 12.5 mil a year (ideally D. Green, but I think he stays in Toronto)
(J. Lamb was 6th best SG in league last season according to RAMP, and offers 3&D skillset, with some extra shot making ability. Underrated, but very good imo)
3) Sign Noah Vonleh to 1+1 (TO) deal, for 6 mil per year.
(Very good fit along Porzingis, but also Kleber and Powell - not a great rim protector, but can guard perimeter, is strong rebounder and can stretch a floor on offense. Slight overpay, but there is TO and they count on him improving to get a value deal in the end).

This move puts Dallas out of cap space, so they now resign own guys with Bird rights:

- Resign Porzingis to max deal
- Resign Kleber to 2 year deal, on 7.5 mil per year
- Sign draft picks for combined 2.5 mil per year
- Renounce Finney Smith cap hold
- Of course, resign Barea to min deal

These moves would bring Mavs cap total to around 128 mil, but they would be able to stay under the tax completely he next year, that way avoiding having to pay repeater tax in 2021/22.

Final depth chart would be:

Porzingis.....Powell.........Antetokumpo
Kleber........Vonleh.........Paschall
Doncic........J. Jackson.....Lee
Lamb.........Hardaway jr...UDFA
Beverly.......Brunson........Barea

After this significant write up, here goes Scenario #2, i.e. Mavs MAX. With top FA targets being unrealistic, and Kemba being out of young guys time frame, I'd be most comfortable maying out D. Russell - should fit well on offense, and has tool to be at least average on defense, Mavs hope he'll improve further under Carlisle, giving them three high level young players (All Stars?) in Doncic, Porzingis and Russell. This is at the same time short term and long term move, as Mavs would have another max spot in 2021.

Spoiler:
1) Sign Russell to max deal
2) Resign Kleber to 2 year deal, on 7.5 mil per year
3) Resign Porzingis to max deal
4) Resign Finney Smith to 5.5 mil 1+1 deal
5) Sign draft picks for combined 2.5 mil per year
6) Of course, resign Barea to min deal

Again, MAvs cap total is at 128 mil, but with Powell, Lee... expiring next year, they would be able to stay under the tax whilke having a PO team.

Depth chart:

Porzingis.....Powell.........Antetokumpo
Kleber........Paschall
Doncic........J. Jackson.....Lee
DFS...........Hardaway jr...UDFA
Russell.......Brunson........Barea

Scenario #3 or Mavs Lite. Point here is to stay under the cap this year, focus on developing young guys and look for them to surprise, or fall in the safety net of lotto pick in a good and deep draft with a lot of talented guards. Having lot of cap space in 2020 allows them to patch up a good team and not give up a good pick to Knicks:

Spoiler:
1) Sign Tyus Jones to 2+1 TO with 10 mil per year salary.
(Rarely mentioned and somewhat underrated, but would actually be a good fit as smart player and good shooter who is pretty competent on D - positive RPM on both sides of the floor - and could have breakout year under Carlisle, given more opportunity than in Minnesota. Still young, would have an opportunity to grow with the young core)
2) Sign Noah Vonleh to 1+1 (TO) deal, for 6 mil per year.
3) Sign draft picks for combined 2.5 mil per year
4) Resign Porzingis to max deal.
5) Of course, resign Barea to min deal

*Don't waive Broekoff in this case

Mavericks stay under the cap, focusing on player development and potentially getting a good pick.

Porzingis.......Powell...........Antetokumpo
Vonleh..........Paschall
J. Jackson......Lee...............Broekoff
Doncic..........Hardaway jr.....UDFA
T. Jones........Brunson..........Barea

Wow that's impressive work!

Curious your thoughts in scenario 1 about maybe stretching Lee and keeping DFS. One thing the team is really lacking is any kind of wing defender plus he can play the 4 opening up some more options. I realize the payroll is rising and you are trying to avoid repeater tax which I think is valid. But seems like a void on the roster without him.

Thanks, appreciate it.

I really liked DFS this year, especially earier on, and he seems like a good character off court and a high effort guy on court.

I was looking for a ways to squeeze him in this scenario too, and I agree his skillset would be valuable, but in this particular case I had to give up in the end (his age and not great shooting helping me make decision)

I was looking possibly at 1+1 deal, at around 5 mil, but that puts Mavs in luxury.

Also, I noticed he is very good guarding PGs and SGs, much better than he is at bigger SFs and PFs. And he would provide real value if he was able to check 3s and 4s regularly. This way I think Lamb is pretty good guarding guards, and you hope Jackson improves as defender too, so he could check bigger wings and forwards. In desperation, even Lee might still have some juice on D.

But primary reason for not stretching Lee and keeping DFS would be that by stretching Lee over 3 years, Mavs cut into 2021 cap space and as far as I calculated it, just enough that they aren't able to open up additional max spot. That puts me off the most.

Why do u think its wise we pay dfs anything? We dont need him to play 4 when kp powell and luka can do that, not including maxi if we keep him. Dfs is a dime a dozen athletic wing with no offensive skills, we can get that same rangy non shooting forward in the draft for 500k a year.

I have very simple plans for us, outside chasing the Durant klay butlers of the world, id go hard after Russell 4/100 and kemba 4/100. Id max either if it absolutely took that but i hate the idea of "luka is the pg so lets not take the ball out his hands" no, he needs to play off ball some so he doesnt get burned out. If i can successfully land one of those guys, id shoot for a thj and jackson for batum deal, followed up by a courtney lee for t thompson deal. I wouldnt re sign powell id just keep him on his current deal. I wouldnt pay dfs anything as he can be replaced for much cheaper, and i wouldn't offer maxi anything over 5m. I don't believe in big money deals to backups, thats not how u win in this league. Sign shumpart with the room exception for 2 years

Kemba(or russell)/brunson/barea
Batum/shumpert/harris
Luka/shumpert/batum
Zinger/powell/draft pick(bazley)
Thompson/powell/zinger

We still would need to find a bit more shooting but thats a solid roster

Yeah I'd love McDerrmott. Shoots, makes quite a bit less. But I don't see why Indy bites on Lee/#39.

We have #37 and not #39
