GSW-MN

Post#1 » by wesleyt95 » Sun Sep 8, 2019 10:30 pm

Assuming D-Lo doesn't work out in Golden State I have a likely scenario both teams probably cant refuse...

GSW Out: D'Lo
GSW In: Covington, Okogie, MN 2020 unprotected 1st, Dieng

MN Out: Covington, Okogie, MN 2020 unprotected 1st, Dieng
MN In: D'Lo

GSW gets a likely lottery pick along with their own 2020 and 2 solid pieces in Okogie and Covington w/ Dieng expiring
MN gets their PG of the future and w/ Teague expiring gives them enough room to sign someone like Ibaka or Millsap at the 4...
a year from now could look like:
PG: Russell
SG: Culver
SF: Wiggins(!)
PF: Ibaka
C: Towns

its a win-win and gives GSW plenty of flexibility as well

may be a bit of an overpay by MN if anything, we may may be desperate though depending on how this year goes

I'm sure Minnesota could get some protections on that pick at the very least.

You don't want Ibaka at the 4. Trust me.

Maybe I’m too high on Covington... but I don’t think that pick is needed.... i don’t think DLo this value on a max.

Questionable that DLO is worth his contract. Okogie, lightly protected first (wolves remain a lotto team with this trade) and Covington is a big overpay even with dieng going out.

I don't see Russell on a max deal having that kind of value. I was hesitant for the Wolves to sign him for that much as FA (assuming something like a Teague/Okogie sign and trade could have been worked out with a third team), so paying a hefty price in assets in addition to having to take on Russell's contract seems like a really bad idea for Minnesota.

OP is a overpay.

Take out Okogie and the FRP should be 2x SRP.

Well assuming D'Lo doesn't work out, i have to think this would be a pretty good offer. Not really sure of the value of Minnesota's pick nor Okogie but they look like good value sitting here today. Not a fan of Dieng and we don't really need him, but i'm guessing part of taking on that filler salary is the value from the draft pick / Okogie.

What it comes down to is if we're starting from the assumption that Russell isn't working out - then its tough to say no - cause well, he's not working out. But in that case, why would Minnesota be compelled to offer up an unprotected pick plus a decent young G plus a 3&D wing for him. I mean, GSW would be more desperate in that case i think (?)

I know the OP qualified that this trade would be offered in the event D'lo doesn't work out for some reason. But at this point, I'm curious if people think Utah would do this deal for Mitchell or if Phoenix would do this deal for Booker? Because that's what the value looks like for me. His max contract has been mentioned but I'm confident he'll outplay his rookie max as most of the best rookies do. There aren't really that many Wiggins that get max deals based on levels of play they haven't reached yet.

And the actual GSW-Wolves trade that has been beaten to death is...

Teague + Covington

For

Russell + Filler

Have Wolves throw in 1-2 SRPs — done and done.

Hmm... rookie maxes that i think didn't live up to their paychecks. Off the top of my head...

Wiggins (as you mentioned)
Barnes ( )
Otto Porter Jr (i think his was a max)
Antawn Jamison ( :banghead: - yes after however many years, still banging my head)

It does happen.

What i'm wondering for those who believe Russell is overpaid - how much these people think he should be getting per year?

Russell is tied with 4 guys as the 27th highest paid player in the game. Not sure how it looks in 2020/21 season, but that doesn't seem overpaid to me.

OP is definitely an overpay by Minnesota - but it could be worthwhile. I'm not a Russell fan but that's okay, I'm not a fan of Towns either. But teams are built around 2-3 talented players, very talented and there is no denying their talent.

But it only works if Golden State decides they don't want to keep Russell. Covington would be a nice addition for them, but the question becomes, which would they prefer.

If DLo “doesn’t work out” that means he is not worth his new max deal. I wouldn’t pay this much for him.

GS not interested, we keep the best player and don’t break his value down into lesser pieces. Easy no from GS.

Kerr prioritizes shotmakers that can dribble and pass. We don't have need of a guy with a skill set limited to standing in the corner waiting to shoot and defending on the perimeter because that's a fraction of what Klay does already. Primary ballhandlers will always be more valuable than two dimensional 3 and d wings.

Winning and playing with Curry IMO increases a young players value. Team defense usually gets better under Adams as well.

It's a matter if GS wants to pay steep repeater tax with a young 1 time all star or want future assets.

2 firsts and a vet I think will be the eventual return.
