His extension means he cant be traded for a year so he wont be moved this season.

Re: Bradley Beal agrees to 2-yr extension
I think he still gets traded in the off season unless Wiz show him something this season. Just securing his money.

Great for the Wizards. Most of us didn’t think this would happen so kudos.

Updated thread title for Woj-fficial-ness.
2 years is likely less than the Wiz were hoping, but it's a lot better than 0! Finally some good news for a franchise that could use some.

Fantastic deal, congrats to the Wiz. I thought he was a goner. Makes a Wall trade less likely, I would think.

Re: [Woj] Bradley Beal agrees to 2-yr extension
I'm shocked that Beal signed an extension.
This is just continued raises from his current 25% contract. He could have made more money signing a full 30% max deal as a FA.
Though getting a short deal means that he'll be eligible for a 35% max deal when this deal ends.

Yeah I think this is concern about the cap going forward and lining up for his vet max.

Why would the Wizards, a team rebuilding around youth, trade for Chris Paul?
Can we finally drop this notion that Beal must see short term wins or he's leaving? Obviously, Beal accepts the rebooting strategy that the Wizards are executing. It would be stupid to short circuit that strategy and trade for an aging player in a desperate effort to land the 5th seed one last time.

The difference is negligible. It's effectively a one-year deal. Beal is going to make $34.5M in 2021-22. What's the most he could have made if he waited until Summer 2021 and signed a 30% contract? $40M? But by doing so now, he gets the security of locking in $72M of salary in case he has a catastrophic injury.

Kawhi, PG13, Griffin, LeBron, Dipo, Gobert, Holiday, Drummond, Waiters, and Richardson all can be FA's, Tatum's class are all RFA, then there's guys like Conley and Lowry as well.
Rest in peace Mamba. There'll never be another Kobe.

Exactly.
And since he's staying this season, he might as well stay when John returns. Wall might be able to return to his former level, but more likely he'll just be a serviceable starter. Whatever it is, Brad signing says he'll willing to hold down the fort for now, and see what his former compadre can do.
He's obviously not waiting for a supermax, even though I always thought that was a pipe dream in Washington for him. But the fact that he signed bodes well for the Wizards long-term, and looks good on Beal.
Some people really have a way with words. Other people... not... have... way.

I think it makes a Wall trade more likely. You can't build around Beal with Wall on that roster.
