Davis Bertans Trade Value?

He's a lights out 3 point shooter, but doesn't do much of anything else really.
He's on an expiring contract, so he's set to hit Unrestricted Free Agency this summer, where somebody may give him the full non taxpayer's MLE or even a little bit more than that.
Finally, the Wizards acquired him for next to nothing, as they sent the draft rights of Aaron White (2nd round pick, 49th overall in 2015) in the deal to Brooklyn.

What do you think his trade price is? Can the Wizards get a first round pick for him if it's like top 25 protected or something like that? Or is he another guy that can be had for two 2nd round picks and some cash?

Definitely not a first unless bad salary is incoming. I seem him as being worth expiring filler + 2 2nds (assuming the filler is of neutral value).

Wide range of opinions on this. I tend to agree with what you have here, but some were calling for a lotto pick.

sure if wiz take on bad contracts but only playoff hopeful teams should require his services and those types of teams dont have lotto picks to offer nor would they want to offer one

Sixers would give Mike Scott, Jonah Bolden, Trey Burke, and the OKC "1st" (top 20 protected, likely to be 2 future 2nds) for Bertans and IT.

First rounder or bust.

I would much rather hold onto him, use Bird Rights to re-sign him above MLE (which he 100 percent will get on the open market), and then sit on him. Perhaps deal him down the road, perhaps keep him for the duration of his contract. This dude can play. Has a deadly shot, plays average defense, and is a team guy. No need to move him for a second rounder that we could probably buy come closer to the draft.

He's in that weird middle ground where if I'm totally fine giving up something like the GS 2nd that Dallas has but I wouldn't be able to talk myself into something like LAC's 1st due to him being an expiring and similar type player (albeit worse) like Ersan being potentially available for less or a better guy like Gallo being available for a 1st too.

On the flip side if I'm Washington I wouldn't give him up for anything that isn't a 1st.

Why would he re sign with the Wiz instead of a playoff team for the same money?

Which playoff team has a first to send a first for him? Seem like 7th or 8th man for a playoff rotation.

I don't think there's any playoff teams with cap space outside of the Raptors and maybe Phoenix. There's a huge amount of money available from certain squads, but it's really concentrated among the bottom feeders. Everyone else is looking at MLE money as their top offer.

From my understanding, the non tax paying teams can offer him an MLE of 10 million a year. Bottom feeders could steal him away with a better pay day . But I dont see the market being drastically hotter than 10 million per for him.

I'd like the rockets to give a first for him, just because those picks do nothing for them and they don't have salary matching for bigger upgrades. Plus he's young and bird rights
They need size and shooting and a four since MDA refuses to play Clarj

This feels like the kind of situation that would make sense for both teams for a 1st to be involved. How do you all match salary though?

Nene, Green, 2020 HOU 1st lotto prot for Bertans works I think

Mavs are an intriguing landing spot for him. Latvian connection with KP, Mavs have a high 2nd to give (from Golden State), and a traded player exception.

Mavs can only give up a 2026 first round pick straight up, but that's so far out in the future that it wouldn't make sense for them to trade it, unless it was top 25 protected or something like that.

On top of that, the Mavs are a non taxpaying team, so they can give him the full MLE next summer.

But Mavs need perimeter defense, and ideally a defensive anchor of a big man.

Hadn't even considered the Rockets.. but he'd be a pretty perfect fit there. Capela, Harden, and Westbrook can pick up the rebounding slack and let him just bomb. He's also a pretty crafty passer and can drive when needed.

Really like that fit.

For sure. I thought of that as well, but I'm a Mavs fan, so I wasn't going to put that idea out there, lol.

I could see him getting $15+ million a year in free agency tbh. You gotta believe some team will be willing to go that high. Maybe even $18 million, but if the cap decreases, then I think $15 million it is.

Who has the money? Most competitive teams will have capspace freeing up in 2021, not this summer.

I think it’s a no-brainer for the Wiz to retain Bertans in a depressed FA market.

Nope. Not even close.
