In Honor of the Upcoming December 15th: Not 1.. Not 2... Not 3... Not 4... 5 Trades We're Going To See This Season...

Los Angeles Clippers get:
Marcus Morris
2020 Hornets Second Round Draft Pick

New York Knicks get:
Maurice Harkless
Jerome Robinson
2020 Clippers First Round Draft Pick

Clippers add solid fit to help spread the floor. Morris is playing really well this year and could be a great veteran with a skill set that could maximize Paul George and Kawhi Leonard doing their thing, but also be able to step up and contribute if asked to.

Knicks get another 2020 first round draft pick, take a flier on a young rookie contract guard and see if they can get Harkless to live up to his defensive potential, but he's expiring worst case any way.

=====

Atlanta Hawks get:
Meyers Leonard
Less Favorable of 2022 76ers or Nuggets Second Round Draft Pick

Miami Heat get:
Jabari Parker

Heat get below the luxury tax and add a scorer that if he can stay healthy is actually not a bad fit on the court at all.

Hawks would have Meyers Leonard be able to fill in at power forward when Collins is out while also being a good fit at center in their system.

=====

Boston Celtics get:
Richaun Holmes

Sacramento Kings get:
Vincent Poirier
Semi Ojeleye
Less Favorable of 2020 Celtics or Bucks First Round Draft Pick

Celtics add that defensive presence in the front court without losing anything that would be breaking the bank or even close to it.

Kings would see if a change of scenery could work for the players coming back, but also get a first round draft pick for Holmes simply because he checks a few rare boxes for a player that is realistically available for the right price.

=====

Brooklyn Nets get:
Jae Crowder
Less Favorable of 2020 Grizzlies or Bulls Second Round Draft Pick (via Bulls)

Chicago Bulls get:
Rodions Kurucs
Wilson Chandler

Memphis Grizzlies get:
Cristiano Felicio
Dzanan Musa
2020 Lottery Protected Philadelphia 76ers First Round Draft Pick

Nets get a scorer at forward for essentially a downgrade from a late first to an early second, but would get the help now instead of having to wait until the draft.

Bulls do Bulls things a.k.a. ownership saves a ton of money.

Grizzlies see if they can make anything of Musa, but get a first that should convey for their troubles of replacing Crowder with Felicio to help with the rebuild.

=====

Dallas Mavericks get:
Andre Iguodala

Memphis Grizzlies get:
Courtney Lee
2020 Golden State Warriors Second Round Draft Pick

Mavericks get a veteran leader in the locker room that fills a defensive wing need without going crazy.

Grizzlies would add essentially another first round draft pick because the Warriors second should be top 35 to the 76ers first they got from the Crowder deal above.

I think some teams are looking around for ways to get under the tax. And I think you may see a couple of those deals next week. I also could see that DAL-MEM Iguodala trade going down exactly as is written here.

I'd like that, but I don't think so. This deal doesn't have to wait until 12/15. It could have already happened. In fact Dallas tried hard to make it happen this summer. And every day it doesn't happen Memphis loses money and Dallas loses time to get AI integrated.

Which means one or more of the following is probably true:

1. Memphis thinks they can get more than that pick --- I don't think they can fwiw, but I understand them waiting and hoping a team feels desperate due to injury or whatever and caves on a protected 1st.

2. Dallas is low-balling and not offering up that pick, or maybe even any pick and asking Memphis to just take the money savings as compensation-- I'd be surprised if this was the case. Especially as well as the season is going for Dallas and their continued need for a guy like Iggy

3. Iggy has made it known through channels he doesn't want to play in Dallas and Dallas doesn't want another guy who doesn't want to be here.

I'd have 1 and 3 the most likely reasons this most obvious of deals isn't done especially since we know Dallas wants Iggy.

Is that really all Holmes will get?

Hard to imagine he could realistically get more. He's a useful, but ultimately still limited player who has bounced around the league and played for cheap. There just isn't a huge market for him.

I actually think it's a pretty good deal. Boston could really use him and the Kings can take their profit on a lowkey signing and just give Bagley as many center minutes as they can--because ultimately to get where they want to get, he's going to have to be at least a part-time center.

I'm good with the two Memphis deals from our perspective.

Switch Holmes with Dedmon and I'm in but with the way Holmes is playing, I can't see us moving him for that. He has been absolutely huge for us this year and Bagley will soak up the leftover center minutes since Dedmon is basically out of the rotation already. Bjelica/Bagley/Barnes will get all of the minutes at the 4 with Holmes and Bagley getting the minutes at the 5.

Marcus Morris is playing well, but he's always struck me as a bit of a pain in the ass to have on a team, lowering his value. To me, the Clippers giving away very limited trade assets for him, when Harkless is already a very good backup SF/PF option doesn't feel likely.

Parker is playing well enough that I don't see the point for Atlanta to deal him for Leonard. Miami gets the better player and tax relief while Atlanta gets? a very late 2nd? Why are the Hawks doing this?

This is probably about Holmes trade value. But Sacramento wants to make the playoffs, so dealing him for filler doesn't make sense unless it's a too good to be true deal.

I'm not sure Crowder gets a 1st round pick in return. Though it's possible with a decent 2nd as 'change' in the deal and Chicago may offer a 2nd to move Felicio (though the odds of the Bulls really needing the cap space are low).

The Iggy deal seems about right, though as noted it could have been done even before the season started. Though perhaps Memphis is waiting on potential better offers that need to wait until the 15th.

Not only this, but given that Holmes is only 26 years old the Kings would probably at least want to give him and Bagley a few months together to see how they mesh. Maybe, despite their obvious limitations, they play really well together. Who knows. But if they do then you've a solid frontcourt that isn't too old.

Profit? The 30th pick or did you value the other players?

Do you know the type of basketball Richaun is playing?

He’s not being dealt now. He’s a good starting center that hopefully stays a long time

I don't get to say this often but----The Bulls will do that deal tonight. They get a pair of players they'll just cut while saving about $7.5M in cap space for next summer, which even if they don't use it (and you can get off the tired and worn out ownership is cheap pogo stick) it would just be a relief to not have Felicio in a suit on the bench every game applauding.

There is no way in hell Holmes gets dealt for that package. That's ridiculous. He may not be "worth" more to you to give up, but he's certainly worth more to Sacramento to trade him away. he's been everything we ever wanted WCS to be all these years. He hustles, he cleans up, he plays defense and HE REBOUNDS! He's on a bargain contract to boot.

Sure we can find a deal for Dedmon. But Holmes is gonna require MORE, much more than a virtual 2nd round pick and salary filler to pry him away from the starting Center position.

If Brooklyn did this I'd like to see them follow it up by reclaiming Iman Shumpert.

I think it's #1. But Memphis is foolish to think that they can get a 1st for him. There are so few win-now teams with first round picks and a large expiring contract available.

Ultimately, I think the trade will happen, but it may not happen until the Trade Deadline. It's no big deal for Dallas. The longer they wait, the fresher Iggy will be and smaller the likelihood that he'll accumulate nagging injuries before the playoffs.
