I don't know if the trade can be reconfigured once the Knicks decide not to participate.

Kemba is 30 and Powell is 29 with both having health concerns. Randle is no prize, but the Knicks can reach the end of his contract quicker than they can with the contracts of Walker and Powell. Bullock can be closed out for just $1 million if the Knicks decide to go that way. Frank has somewhat positive value.

........................2020-21...........2021-22..........2022-23....
Kemba Walker.....$34,379,100......$36,016,200....$37,653,300 - PO
Dwight Powell.....$10,185,185......$11,000,000....$11,814,815

........................2020-21...........2021-22..........2022-23......
Julius Randle.....$18,900,000.....$19,800,000........................
..........................................$4,000,000 - Partial Guarantee
Reggie Bullock....$4,200,000............................................
......................$1,000,000 - Partial Guarantee....................
Frank Ntilikina....$6,176,578............................................

The Knicks aren't giving away their cap space for free. It is even worse than that because the Knicks are actually paying with #8 so other teams can use their cap space.

I see Kemba helping the Knicks next year in FA. Randle, Bullock and DSJ is paying one year of Kemba's deal. Kemba makes NY more more attractive than Killian Hayes?

The celts could take Powell's deal and send wright to the Kings. The framework is then
Kemba for Bullock (not a thibs type of player)+ Randle, DSJ + 8 Take frank out of the deal and put in DSJ- he has no value compared to his 5 mill deal. I don't see this as Knicks eating cap space but get Kemba for three years at 22 mill for the 8th pick

How many games are you projecting a rotation similar to this to win in the 2020-21 season?

Robinson, Powell
Ignas Brazdeikis, Wooten, #27
Barrett, Knox, Dotson,
Ellington, Pinson
K Walker, DSJ

I have their ceiling as 25 games if there is a full 82 game season.

Their floor? Somewhere under 20 wins.

For summer 2021, something like this for cap space with a $115 million salary cap and a high pick since the team didn't do that well in the 2020-21 season.

Kemba Walker...........$36,016,200
Dwight Powell...........$11,000,000

RJ Barrett..................$8,623,920
Mitchell Robinson.........$1,802,057
Damyean Dotson..........$4,000,000
Ignas Brazdeikis...........$1,782,621

2020 #27...................$2,075,880
2021 NY First..............$7,000,000
2021 Dallas First..........$2,400,000

Min Salary.....................$946,542
Min Salary.....................$946,542
Min Salary.....................$946,542

Joakim Noah................$6,431,666
-----------------------------------------------
...............................$83,971,970

Roughly cap space for one Max contract and then they will have the Room Exception.

i have no idea why a Max coontract level player would want to sign with a team that had 25 wins or less in the 2020-21 season and still owed $37,653,300 to Kemba for the 2022-23 season and $11,814,815 to Powell for the 2022-23 season.

****************

I understand that you are unlikely to concede that the proposal in the OP is unfavorable for the Knicks, so my posts are to provide information to the readers who are still undecided and let them judge for themselves.

Why would I be reluctant to concede if it was a good deal or not? You think my feelings get hurt, if everyone does not think my posts are wonderful. I thought Kemba would be a great fit, Knick fans don't. Why would I be reluctant to concede that? That is just one out of 100,000 things that I have been wrong about in the last 67 years. I think you project some.

Zero reason for the Mavs to prematurely dump contracts at the cost of the value contract of the alltime 3p% leader. Dumping Powell at his lowest value is a dumb move anyway. And it wont happen

Why is it premature? Do you thik it will be easier next year when you don't have a first to dump Powell and wright?
I think it is going to be much harder. But that is why I made the post to get opinions. thanks.

To be fair NY has a lot more drawing power than Charlotte. Their chances in free agency go way up if they trade for one all star to start.

If they don't bring back the older veterans, they should have over $43 million in cap space if the salary cap for 2021-22 is unchanged from the salary cap of 2019-20. They can create a bit more cap space by not bringing Pinson back.

I showed my calculations. So step forward and show your calculations since you are skeptical about the Knicks being able to create cap space.

Kemba and journeyman never went very far in Charlotte.

I don't have Kemba and journeyman being enough to get a Max FA to sign with the Knicks in summer 2021.

well what or who does? He gets you closer than a team with Hayes at the point. Kemba is not going to do anything by himself, No one is saying is is Lebron, Kawai, Davis, Harden, Giannis, those are the only type guys who make a team move. But Kemba, Barrett if he develops, Robinson stats to look like a place where a FA will sign. Kemba will do more for Robinson and Barrett that a rookie will too.

Will NYK be able to draft at #8 a player better than Kemba?

Maybe or maybe not, but they need to sort out what they have and find a true #1 type of player which I don't have Kemba to be going forward in his 30's.

The Knicks have been stuck in the middle of nowhere for quite a while and bringing in Kemba to be an ersatz #1 option isn't good enough when compared to what strong Eastern Conference teams have for #1 options.

Going forward, Boston has Tatum as a really good #1 option with Brown as a #2 option while I have Kemba on a plateau as a #3 with an eventual decline because of aging and possible issues with his knee.

I am not a NYK fan, but will defend them when I see them getting a bad shake in a trade.

Fine, it is no big deal. the trade did not work. I don't understand why you go thru all these re-iterations. It is not a good deal for NY, let it go. I did not say you were wrong in your opinion, just the reasons I thought it worked. You said the cap hit for kemba did not match his value and that of the 8th. No one is arguing with you.

And please get off your horse with the "step forward" crap. Who the hell do you think you are?

Why not, you get the 30th and an upgrade and save money. I am changing it to reflect Wright to the kings who is the same total money but spread over two years. you just save 15 mill now and get the 30th.

I was saying I would do the original deal even though I don't view Frank as an upgrade over CoJo. I would do it just to get out of the guaranteed money CoJo is owed in 21-22, I think it's like 2 million guaranteed. The 30 is meh and Frank only makes like 4 million less than Joseph next year and it's not like we would do anything significant with that money in free agency anyway but getting out of that guaranteed money would be enough. Wright in place of Frank is an easier yes though.

You had no problem doing a challenge/callout against FutureKnicksGM about NYK cap space.

I stepped forward and answered for them and threw the challenge/callout about NYK cap space back to you.

Instead of taking a moment and deciding that maybe it wasn't such a good idea to challenge/callout on a topic that you knew very little about, you decided to attack me.

Maybe in the team specific forums partisans can get away with bluffing, but it is a risky strategy for partisans to do that in Trades & Transactions.

What challange? I asked him what cap space? I had it as close to neutral the first year. Certainly not so far away from neutral. And what are you even doing, and what is the risk? and what am I risking? Do you actually think I give a rat a// about your opinion of me? Do You think I thought that he would not notice that Kemba was signed for 3 years and he would have to be paid in the future? Please PM me and explain, I don't want to muddy the forum with this.

And I don't even post in other forums on this site maybe 10 times in the 5 years I have been here.

i guess that both theis and bullock may be absorbed by GSW TPE. don't know if GS do it, maybe because they are targeting some guy in that range (Devin Vassell)
i would just cut out Bjelica and Sacto, not a big fun of him.

That is fine, but what cap space?

NY just shouldn't be giving up the 8th pk & cap space for 30 year old PG, because if you were that confident in him
you wouldn't be trying to move him.

From what I recall, CP3 has been on mostly good teams in recent years rather than put on the roster of a rebuilding team such a the Knicks appear to be for at least the Jan 2021 - 2021 season.

How many games are you projecting a rotation similar to this to win in the Jan 2021 - 2021season?

Robinson, Powell
Ignas Brazdeikis, Wooten, #27
Barrett, Knox, Dotson,
Ellington, Pinson
K Walker, DSJ

of course this is not a definitive trade and I'm afraid the knics will not contend for a title next season.
but you miss that after ths trade NYK still have some room (24M$) to sign somebody or make trade using the cap space:

1 Kemba Walker 34.379 K$
2 Taj Gibson 9.450 K$
3 Wayne Ellington 8.000 K$
4 Elfrid Payton 8.000 K$
5 RJ Barrett 8.23 K$
Joakim Noah 6.432 K$
6 Frank Ntilikina 6.177 K$
7 Kevin Knox 4.589 K$
8 Mitchell Robinson 1.664 K$
9 Ignas Brazdeikis 1.518 K$
10 cap hold - minimum salary 582 K$
11 cap hold - minimum salary 582 K$
12 cap hold - minimum salary 582 K$

to payroll: 90.186
nba projected salary cap 2020-21: 115.000 K$
CAP SPACE 24.814 K$

You are linking to a web page that was written/created prior to the stoppage (JANUARY 30, 2020) in play because of the virus. There was a drop in revenue for the rest of the 2019-20 season and the expectation is that there will be less revenue for the upcoming Jan 2021 - 21 season as well. There might be a few that still think there will be a $115 million salary cap for next season, but most have adjusted expectations downward. There were rumors that the next salary cap will remain unchanged from the 2019-20 salary cap of $109.140 million

1 Kemba Walker 34.379 K$
2 Taj Gibson 9.450 K$
3 Wayne Ellington 8.000 K$
4 Elfrid Payton 8.000 K$
5 RJ Barrett 8.23 K$
Joakim Noah 6.432 K$
6 Frank Ntilikina 6.177 K$
7 Kevin Knox 4.589 K$
8 Mitchell Robinson 1.664 K$
9 Ignas Brazdeikis 1.518 K$
10 cap hold - minimum salary 582 K$
11 cap hold - minimum salary 582 K$
12 cap hold - minimum salary 582 K$

1. The above isn't what I was posting against earlier in the thread, but will go ahead with it since that is what you want.

2. I don't know where the cap hold - minimum salary 582 K$ is coming from.

22. What is the minimum salary a player can receive?

Minimum salary scale for contracts signed in 2019-20:

Years in NBA1.......Year 1
......0.............$898,310

Using a salary cap of $109.140 million

Kemba Walker.........$34,379,100
Taj Gibson...............$9,450,000
Elfrid Payton.............$8,000,000
RJ Barrett ................$8,231,760
Wayne Ellington..........$8,195,122
Frank Ntilikina...........$6,176,578
Kevin Knox................$4,588,680
Mitchell Robinson........$1,663,861
Ignas Brazdeikis..........$1,517,981

Cap Holds
2020 #27..................$1,977,000
Min Salary...................$898,310
Min Salary...................$898,310

Waiver Charge
Joakim Noah..............$6,431,666
---------------------------------------------
Team Salary.............$92,408,368

Projected Salary Cap....$109,140,000
Team Salary................$92,408,368
-----------------------------------------------
Cap Sapce..................$16,731,632

I still don't have the above close enough to being a contender and have the Knicks better off in the long term to sell/rent cap space for compensation instead of sending out Randle + #8 for Kemba + a whatever player.

I don't get this take at all. We are trying to get Wiseman, without trading Brown, Tatum or Smart. none of which we want to trade for the 2nd pick. The knicks have Barrett, so Heyward is out as a fit, while the Knicks are searching for a pg and if we throw the 14th in even if heyward was in play due to fit and took back 32)+ in Randle DSJ and bullock, Theis and 26 does not get us from 8 to 2.

It is not that we want to move on from Kemba, the premise is trying to get wiseman.

NY in Kemba,
NY out #8, Randle/Bullock/dsj

Dallas in Randle/Joesph
Dallas out Wright/Powell/Curry

Sac out Joseph/Bjelica
Sac in 30, Wright, filler from GS

Golden State in Theis, Bullock 8, 14
GS out #2- filler to sac

The Knicks get a PG and dump Randle.
The celts get a 5 and get under tax threshold
The warriors get two play now players at positions of need and two lottery choices
The Kings upgrade at BU point and save 15 mill
The Mavs go from 30 mill of salary commitments in 2021 to 6 and keep draft choices at the cost of Curry

fillers who?
i guess that both theis and bullock may be absorbed by GSW TPE. don't know if GS do it, maybe because they are targeting some guy in that range (Devin Vassell)
i would just cut out Bjelica and Sacto, not a big fun of him.

GS is needed to help absorb Dallas long term salary and give back next year cap space. Bjelica and the 30th could be cut out.
