Paul poll

Sun up: Phoenix wins, getting the star they've long coveted, a perfect fit for a team on the rise.
6
5%
Thunder rolls: OKC wins, getting out of a massive contract for flippable pieces and a future pick too
51
45%
Sunset flip: both teams win. Phoenix gets their "dollar", OKC gets some nice quarters...and save dollars.
56
50%
Beyond Thunderdome: both teams lose. Suns give up good pieces but take on a huge contract and only get to the middle; Thunder could have at least waited to see if more desperate offers rolled in.

Its a good deal for both teams, but that pick should have been lotto protected indefinitely. Thats the real issue to me. By 2025 the Suns could be a total train wreck. You never risk an unprotected pick like that.

I think OKC keeps Ricky and moves Oubre. Rubio is a great vet bridge guy. Oubre is expiring and Presti isnt going to pay him during a rebuild. Cash now.

I think Oubre definitely gets flipped. There's a pretty good market for him and he's expiring.

Rubio, they might hang onto. I've been saying this for a bit but OKC will still need a point guard, and Rubio has two years on his deal. This is a teardown so with the right offer Presti definitely moves him, but I don't think there will be as many immediately interesting offers for Rubio.

This would appear to be the perfect space for a Gallo signing. Does this factor in the cap holds like Baynes that PHX might want to re-up? Or are those guys likely to not be important enough to worry about?

That pick is irrelevant. Two years from now if the suns are still in the lottery, they’ll have bigger problems than not having a pick. Furthermore, LeQ is a project, Jerome will be in Europe for his next deal, and Oubre lost his starting job. Inappropriate Content Removed --Chuck

I assume it is done after free agency. Could be wrong though.

I think that OKC would be better served to wait to complete the trade in the new salary cap year because it should be easier to send pseudo bundles of players to a third or fourth team. I don't know what the date will be for OKC to be able to bundle players already on their roster with the incoming players from Phoenix. If they do all of the moves at once, it avoids having to wait before bundling is allowed.

Giving up a pick is pretty brutal. Like Garnett on Nets, Hakeem on Raptors, it can end quickly.

This is what I expected in a Suns Thunder trade for Paul, but a bit better for the Thunder they got another pick for the stock pile.

Big win for OKC.

Mutually good deal. Suns are playoff-bound and will probably give whomever they meet a good scare until Paul gets hurt.

Blazers better do something...

I'm just thinking back to the dozens of threads last year where OKC was throwing in multiple picks to get teams to take on Chris Paul.

Big win for OKC.

Charania reports (via Twitter) that the pick will be top-12 protected. If it doesn’t change hands in 2022, it’ll be top-10 protected in 2023, top-eight protected in 2024, and unprotected in 2025.

Buzzard wrote:Oubre and Rubio are nice gets for CP3. If you look at what hey have added in the past day, they could be better than last season if they keep their players.

Rubio
SGA/Green
Oubre great addition if healthy
Gallinari
Adams

Giving the lack of impactful small forwards and point guards, I do look for Presti to be moving Oubre and Rubio.

he probably holds onto both unless he gets a first round pick. 3 and D guys tend to have more value at the deadline when teams that are overachieveing tend to reach if they think a guy like that can put them over the hump.

The Thunder now have Rubio, Green, Oubre, Gallinari (S&T) & Adams on the market. I think they will hand on to Steve unless a good situation comes along and they offer a first.

Each guy can be had for a first and an expiring. IF you ain't offering that move along we will rehab the guys value and get a FRP.

Win/Win trade.

The WB/CP3 swap was so crazy good for us that it looks even better right now...but Phoenix made a good trade so both teams are fine.
