that's a completely different discussion

this was the golden year to try and tank for a future star. all the mid tier Eastern teams got better, we drafted a guy who is probably a project and a detriment in year 1, were an incredibly young team with only Zeller, Rozier, and Batum who won't play as the only players not on rookie contracts, and a seemingly stacked 2021 draft class?

What the actual **** is this organization thinking?

At least they actually get Hayward on the roster this time, unlike the last time they signed him.

per year or total?

4/100 would still have been an awful contract

What the heck is going on with the FO in Charlotte?

Batum is being stretched.

That's $9,043,478 in dead salary on the books this year, next year, and the year after

How the hell does someone with that on his resume get a JOB as an NBA GM? I need to send the Hornets my own Resume, zero bad trades done and zero horrid signings. Yeah I have no experience but as some old politician says, "Come on Man!"

The Hornets will waive and stretch the final year of Nicolas Batum‘s contract in order to create the cap room necessary to sign Gordon Hayward, reports Rick Bonnell of The Charlotte Observer.

My lord this goes from bad to worse. Effectively paying $147 million for Hayward.

As is Rozier.

Ball/Rozier/Hayward is a pretty solid 1-3.

Both Rozier and Hayward are plus shooters, Rozier can guard the best backcourt player on the other team.

From Charlotte's perspective, I'm concerned on the extra year vs the extra money. I would feel a lot better with 3 years, $98MM vs 4 years, $120.

those three look pretty solid to you??? dang, your optimism is ... sorry to say but ... delusional?! I do not like to talk at someone like this but seriously man. LaMelo has not proven anything yet. there is entirely way way too much hype around the Ball brothers in general. Rozier isn't half bad but nothing to write home about, then there is Hayward getting that contract. he is 30, so leaving his prime and has struggled to stay healthy, and lets not even talk about him trying to make an impact on the defensive end. I mean Charlotte is not a free agent draw so giving someone more money than they are worth is not surprising. but again, to say that is a solid 1-3. IMHO I very much disagree

Curious what would be considered a "discount" given this contract. Discount to me means like $15 mil a year but seems more like $25 mil which is still an overpay.

I mean Batum was going to get paid that money for no production anyway, so that part doesn't bother me. Sunk cost.

But the stretch is a problem. Just chewed up another $9M of capspace for each of the next two years to get this done.

Still waiting to see if this turns into an S&T with Boston paying Charlotte to create a mega-TPE. If both sides are smart, it should.

Looks like something that starts with Cluster and rhymes with muck.

I wouldn't have one of Lavar Ball's kids on my team unless that kid swore an oath to not let his Daddy near the Arena or practice facilities.

The $9MM on the books this year is meaningless

Next year, it's a little meaningful as it takes CHA down from $37MM in cap space to $28MM in cap space, but in theory they can move off last year of Rozier's deal, the only non rookie scale deal besides Hayward on their books

The following year, Hayward is the only non rookie scale deal on the books.

From the Hornets perspective, I kind of prefer this to giving up assets to create space. It's not as bad as it looked at first glance.

Batum is now potentially a nice pickup for a contender on the minimum. The last year he was healthy he put up 9-5-3 on 45/38 splits. He could help a lot of teams in a limited role.

I don't like the Stretch all it does is make the pain last longer. Especially if you're not using it to sign a guy who is gonna put you in the finals with a shot to win. If you have to waive a guy just eat the salary with him still on the roster, unless he's a cancer then you can just send him home and wait out the 1 year. Especially with this being a shortened season.

Wow.

Makes me feel a little less horrid about Grant for 3/60.

Still can't deal with Plumlee for 3/28 though.

The WORST thing you can do is stretch a deal that's expiring. Yet that seems to be a common thread among poorly run teams. Again, Hornets fans, if you wanna star that support group, Pistons fans are waiting.
