Giannis is gone: Mavs Next Target

Post#1 » by NYG » Wed Dec 16, 2020 1:11 am

Who is the new target for the Mavs with Giannis gone? Who is the best fit they could trade for?

If they don't chase Gobert, I think they chase one of the three guards. Oladipo, Jrue, Lowry. Calling Leonard in my opinion will be a wasted breath; but they will still call him. Just like Atlanta and every other team with cap make the obligatory phone call to AD this year.

I think they should wait and see what happens with the Clippers. If they underachieve in the postseason again, Leonard could opt out.

As some more regular posters know.. I always wanted Dipo as I didn’t think the others were realistic. So now that Giannis is gone and Jrue is unlikely leaving .. I’m still sticking with Dipo.

I think its between Dipo and Lowry. I lean Lowry personally. Likely cheaper and on a shorter deal.

IMO they should target giving out 3 year deals summer 2021. I wonder if there is a way to resign THJ, Richardson and add Lowry all to 3 year deals. Once Zinger expires summer 2024, another max window will be open.

I think Richardson is a wild card. If he has a great year, a great offer will follow from someone.

I hope Mavs dont make offers for Oladipo or Gobert or Otto. Oladipo looks like ****, been a long time since he came back so Im calling him washed. Gobert doesnt fit, would have to trade porzinggod first or pay gobert like 10m/year for a backup spot. Otto is just too injured too often. And Lowry probably want to get payed, dont see him as much of an upgrade to be worth what he will want over the backup guards we have. If he takes less it will be with raptors.

Not sure who they will go for, will see what teams fail miserably this season and what they can get. Pretty happy with the team as it is atm and renewing contracts might be priority 1.

Just kidding, they don’t have the assets. 8-)

Kemba Walker. He fits. Like KP, there are injury concerns but that didn't stop the Mavs. Kemba was a target in the off-season and during the last trade deadline, maybe two. Kemba is a dream secondary playmaker who thrives off ball. He can relive pressure off Luka and make this Mavs team super interesting vs. the powerhouses out West. Mavs have limited assets and surely the Celtics will ask for something significant on top of mere cap relief.

I'm still out on this. I guess of who is left as a FA I'm now a Gobert man even though that's not ideal with KP. But he's clearly the best player available.

But I think a deadline trade is something to really look for. And no the little Mavs don't want Zach LaVine and yes obviously they have the assets to get him. Beal is the dream, but they really don't have assets for him and Washington isn't moving him.

So I think Dallas keeps tabs on both of the Hawks free agents and how that goes. I think they should poke around Draymond. If he looks back to form but the Warriors don't I'd see if he could be pried free.

But I know this, they will be active. And when a team with some good players with big contracts is ready to start over Dallas will be calling to set them free.

I've been banging this drum for awhile, Kemba would be amazing next to Luka/KP. If they can't get a better defender, getting Kemba somehow would be incredible for them

I think they are going to poke around any unhappy star because of their expiring contracts but i dont think they have the assets to pull something bigger off. And no, they wont trade for Kemba after his knee issues and the trade for Josh Richardson. Richardson > Kemba for the Mavs.

I think they will roll into the next FA with their max cap space and Gobert is probably as BPA on the top of their list. And then probably a healthy Otto Porter. I think Oladipo is damaged goods and Jrue isnt going anywhere because Bucks will give him a five year max.

In general they wont be really interested in guards. Luka, Josh, Green, Brunson, Burke...they go wing or big

Dont see Mavs wanting kemba now, specially at that contract. Would rather pay Richardson and THJ since u know what u get and are better fits

They could steal two from the Nets.
They supposedly liked Dinwiddie around the draft and Allen is a Texas kid who fits a position of need. Both are FAs.

Dinwiddie l T.Terry l T.Burke
Richardson l J.Green
Doncic l DFS l Iwundu
KP l Kleiber
Allen l Powell

Doubtful guards and centers is what seek since Mavs got most of that atm. Probably PF/SFs they want. Allen could be KPs backup if they get rid of Powell and Boban somehow, but still doubtful and not likely we can dump Powell. Dinwiddie I dont know what they would do with, expiring iirc and would probably be far down the guard rotation. Also doubt Mavs want expirings that want to be payed, rough enough to lock in Richardson and THJ and whoever more expires this season.

My guess is that its like Kawhi and Jrue, lock up the expirings, and last try to land 1 of the RFA, maybe Markkanen, might be a decent fit behind Kleber in PF spot.

Its more like this:
Doncic, Brunson, Burke, Terry
Richardson, THJ, Green, Hinton
DFS, THJ, Iwundu
Kleber, Johnson, Bey
KP, WCS, Powell, Boban

Might have missed someone. But DFS probably shouldnt be first choice at SF, thats where the biggest need is imo, 2nd biggest is PF. C only as I said if you can drop Powell and Boban

Jrue would be so great next to Luka.

I'm pretty sure he'll stay though like you said.

I believe Gobert should be their target, possibly via SnT of Porzingis. I also think Fournier gets an MLE to be there next season too.

Luka, J-Rich, Fournier, DFS, Gobert
Brunson, Burke, THJ, Green, Kleber, Powell

Wonder if they target Horford if he bounces back in OKC. Went hard after him last summer

Tobias Harris puts up numbers, and would be available.

Neither Harris or Horfird is worth their contracts, and theirs wages is so high that mavs probably woukd have to ditch players just to salary match. Hardly think it would happen.
My money iz on resigns and markkanen, maybe collins if a reasonable deal is possible
