Throw in the GSW and Orlando DPE’s and lets sticky this thing. Great asset!

Everyone but Brooklyn, Philly, GSW, and the LA teams should at least try. We know Houston will and I'd assume most of the others find a way as well though for a couple it gets tricky.

My thoughts exactly. Teams that deem themselves contenders are going to look to improve first; cutting costs is only likely in the event of a disastrous season.

Houston certainly will, either through the Harden trade or something else. The others will probably look to dump veteran minimum guys with cash at the deadline and fill any necessary roster plugs by shuffling guys in and out of 10-day contracts.

Teams Over or With-In $2 Million of the Luxury Tax
Indiana Pacers ($577,014 over)
Milwaukee Bucks ($1,837,794 over)
Houston Rockets ($3,603,929 over)

Those are the teams to watch

Spurs waive Tyler Zeller

Pacers waive Naz Mitrou-Long and/or Kelan Martin

* Miye Oni $1,517,981 — 2/24/21

Rockets trade exceptions: 2,564,753 for Nene used to take Kurucs, down to 784,601; 1,620,564 completely consumed (KPJ); created 10,654,920 for Harden; cross them off the list of teams close to the tax

Cavs trade exceptions: 1,717,981 for KPJ, the other one was used to take Jarrett Allen

Pacers should have a 4,796,296 TPE for Oladipo; cross them off the list of teams close to the tax

Nets should be 30,026,939 above the tax; they also don't have any first round picks left to trade

If the Jazz could trade Azubuike into cap space would they get under the luxury line?

He unfortunately suffered a pretty severe injury in his 1st g-league game (wouldn't recommend watching it).

Getting rid of Azubuike alone would not be enough. He makes 2M, but the amount to clear is 2.5M. In addition, they would need to replace him since they're only carrying 14 players to begin with.

That aside, that's not something you do to anyone, let alone a first round pick, after such a traumatic injury. And I don't think their new owner is that afraid of the tax anyways. He just sold a tech startup for $8 billion and he's got a team who can really give the LA teams a run for their money.

Side note: The Pistons should have a TPE for Rose worth $1,996,249.

Re: 2020-21 Season Trades and Transaction Notes (Teams that can't trade their 1st, every TPE, teams over the tax, etc.)

Per Bobby Marks, OKC used the Gallinari TPE to absorb Leonard, reducing it to 10.1M. They created a 12.8M exception for Ariza.
The PJ Tucker trade isn't official yet. My guess would be that the Bucks receive a 2.78M TPE for Wilson (Augustin matches Tucker, the remaining value is Wilson - Kurucs), while the Rockets receive a 1.78M TPE for Kurucs (Tucker can match Augustin and Wilson because the Rockets are not a taxpayer).
The Bucks do have a TPE, worth the minimum salary, for Craig.
Also check the list for expired TPEs. There are a handful from the 4 team RoCo/Capela/Beasley megadeal that expire today (Friday).

Edit: Marks confirms that it's actually a 4.89M TPE (Augustin - Kurucs) for the Bucks. I hadn't considered that the Bucks went under the tax as a result of that trade (which I'm not quite sure how they did, depending on Holiday's incentives and others), which allowed them to use Wilson to match Tucker using the 175% limit.

Edit 3/23: All March 2021 TPEs have expired. The only one that was consumed was the one the Kings had for Dedmon. The Clippers create one for Kabengele worth 2.1M, while also dropping to 3.7M above the tax.

Will do! It's a lot to keep up with, so thanks again for getting it started.
