[MIA-SAS] DeRozan to Miami

Miami trades: Kelly Olynyk, Meyers Leonard, KZ Okpala, 2022 PHI/DEN 2nd (less favorable)
Spurs trade: DeMar DeRozan

Why Miami does it: get the superior player. Could a third star have gotten them where they need to be?
Why San Antonio does it: get a small forward prospect, and some contracts/players that might be flippable, in addition to a late second in a year.

I don't have a problem with the value, but I don't think it's a great idea for Miami to exchange three of their forwards (including two that can play center) for DeRozan. The Heat are not strong in the front court even with Achiuwa. Okpala would have a great coach on the Spurs. I could see that working out well for him!

poor value for Spurs, they gave plenty of sf prospects that are probably better than kz in Johnson, walker, vassell etc

I don't like the fit of DeRozan in Miami. We don't need a wing who can't shoot...

If his shooting holds up through 20 games what would you say to it?

The same exact thing. I don't trust his shooting long term. 20 games are great, but you don't go against history at this point in his career, IMO. I know players like Jason Kidd have become great shooters towards the end, but I need to see more than 20 games before I put my eggs in that basket and completely eviscerate my frontcourt depth...

I really like DeRozan, but it would only make sense to make this trade if 1) Miami wanted to keep DeRozan long-term and 2) if Miami had a plan to acquire a center. That said, it is hard to see DeRozan fitting unless he agreed to be Miami's 6th man.

Eh. I don't think so. At this point in the year, I'd need a guaranteed first or a young player who's basically a first like Achiuwa. White's apparently snake-bitten by injury, and Walker is not consistent yet. So DeRozan is adding a lot of value to SA as they continue to go small. Maybe at the deadline.

Derozan is a bad fit with Butler.

DeRozan's unexplained 3 point shooting looks unsustainable, but in this season - it might be a gamble the Heat need to take.

If it holds up, great. Even if he starts bricking shots - with the games Dragic and Butler are expected to miss - it won't hurt to have him create offense next to Herro/Robinson.

I think it makes sense for both teams - a classic win now piece in exchange for a prospect.

I think KZ could become a stud is Spurs system.

Miami does need another guy who can create offense though. They’re weak in that area behind Butler and Dragic.

What about Aldridge from SAS? They could use a shooting big and LMA/Bam is a pretty good front court.

I've been an advocate of that for awhile now...

I'm also onboard with Rudy Gay on a buyout, if the Spurs aren't competing at the deadline.
