Vote Blake Griffin

Who would say no faster to a deal of Griffin for a more usable player on longer deals like Wiggins or Russell? I think those teams don't do it, and it just takes one team to still be interested in Russell or Wiggins potential.

Nominate Kemba Walker

With sample size of hampered games this season growing I'm ready to believe the Celtics would have trouble trading him.

It’s gotta be Blake. He’s not even an MLE quality player if this is who he is now.

Vote- Blake
Nominate- Kemba Walker

I think Walkers contract is worse than the current options. Last year he wasn’t even a top 10 PG yet he’s making 34 mill now, 36 mill next season and 37 mill in 2022. If he doesn’t get it together soon we might be looking at Blake Griffin 2.0

V: Griffin
N: Harrison Barnes (see below)

babyjax13 wrote:Below average starter at either forward position making ~$20 million/year for 3 seasons when he should be making around $10 million.

EDIT: I've been pretty consistent on the Harrison Barnes is a terrible contract bandwagon, but I'll elaborate.

BPM --- RAPTOR --- RPM
2012-13 --- [-1.7] --- [N/A] --- [-1.13]
2013-14 --- [-1.6] --- [-3.8] --- [-4.16]
2014-15 --- [0.1] --- [-0.5] --- [0.07]
2015-16 --- [-1.3] --- [-1.7] --- [-0.65]
2016-17 --- [-0.8] --- [-0.2] --- [-0.97]
2017-18 --- [-0.5] --- [-1.5] --- [-1.54]
2018-19 --- [-1.4] --- [-1.3] --- [-0.26]
2019-20 --- [-1.4] --- [-1.4] --- [-1.02]
2020-21 --- [0.2] --- [2.7] --- [-0.09]

In almost every season, on almost every team, he has been a negative value player as a starter. So yes, he has size, and he can shoot, and despite that has still managed to be a net-negative as a starter every year of his career except this season, and as of right now, we have a small sample. Maybe he keeps it up all season, if so, that's great! But it's not the Harrison Barnes we've seen for 612 games before this season.

Just take last year as an example, he was 257th (79th at SF) in RAPTOR and 170th (53rd at SF) in RAPTOR WAR last season, that puts him in a rough group with:

Troy Brown Jr.
Andrew Wiggins
Reggie Bullock
James Ennis
Doug McDermott
Cedi Osman
Trevor Ariza
Cam Johnson
Kyle Anderson
Dillon Brooks

And a good chunk of those guys made $8-$13 million a year, and some were even considered overpaid at that [but I'd say it's roughly appropriate]. So, let's say at best, using these players as approximate peers, that Barnes should be a $13 million/year player (entirely appropriate for a 6th or 7th man, or your 5th best starter - probably the role Barnes should be in, a team's 5th to 7th best player), that has him overpaid by $9 million this year, $7 million the next, and $5 million the year after.

Heck, we can even go to 538's player rater, which rates Barnes as a $4.5 million player for this season (so the rough approximation above may be too high from a standpoint that considers metrics absent anything else): https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/2021-nba-player-projections/harrison-barnes/

I'm gonna pivot off Russell for this one because having just seen him play and seeing the aggressive amount of quit in his game..

Vote: Blake Griffin

Yes, his contract is shorter than DLo, and I obviously dont think much of DLo as a player, but he at least pretends to care and is liked in the locker room. Watching Blake walk right by the whole JTA/McGruder issue, not having a comment on it, and sleepwalking through the game.. that prima donna **** has got to be not only the worst for the team, but for the young players who need a vet to lead them through a tough season. Blake, you suck.

Vote: Wiggins

I’m choosing Wiggins over Griffin because of his extra year. I also see no pathway for Wiggins to recoup a max deal in his role in GSW. What is he - potential defender, third option who shoots inefficiently? Worse, we have seen him with several different coaches, with several different systems, around youth and around vets (Butler), and with several different roles. We always see the same thing - he plays okay for a little while, then mails in it for weeks at a time. It’s his seventh year - expecting him to suddenly start caring now seems like wishful thinking. He still has a negative BPM, like he has every season in his career. His lack of effort on both ends of the floor will keep him in his traditional spot near the top of every year’s Worst Contracts list.

Vote: Blake

He's been a poor leader his entire career and has continued to be despite bringing nearly no on court value with a young team. I don't think he was a good dude to have around young guys when he was in his prime. To me, he's just a complete and utter waste of $80 mil over 2 years that you hope isn't detrimental to the team. If he was a better vet, numerous longer deals would come before him.

Nominate: Marcus Morris

A roleplayer with serious attitude and ego problems on a big 4 year deal he never earned. Deserves to be on this list more than several sitting there right now.

Vote: Blake Griffin often injured and just isn't worth the contract he has. I can't see him having much value.

Nominate: Kemba Walker injuries have taken a toll on him, paid like a top PG until he's 35 been on a decline and not worth his deal

Agree with many on here

Vote Blake Griffin, just brings nothing to the table these days
Nominate: Kemba Walker, not a difference maker and so bad defensively, no justifying his contract
