Vote- Simmons
Nominate- Kyrie

I think both of these guys have become very underrated because of various media/fan narratives that distract from the great things they do on the court.

Might be the only one here but he's probably a top 5 DPOY guy signed for about $18M a year for 3 years.

Young
Grant --- great contract for his production, competent on both ends, Weaver has really proven us wrong (well, really, Grant has). Wish we could have seen he and Wood on the team together.

I’m not sure how 1 year of Kawhi beat out a couple of the next players who are locked up for 5 years.

And yes, I do know what 1 year of Kawhi got Toronto, but I also know what it cost them.

Because you can win more playoff series (>0) in 1 year with Kawhi as your best player than you can in 5 years with the others. Also it clearly cost Toronto way less than it should've; they still had enough to come back strong the following year and are still a playoff team this year.

Nominate: Haliburton

Miami is 3-9 when Jimmy Butler doesn't play this year. Bam would be the closest in that group, but in 2-3 years' time when Butler has declined to the point of no longer being the Heat's best player it would still be a tall order for Bam. Should be pretty noncontroversial that once you get to the top 10-15 players, jumping up a tier within them is very valuable and taking someone who definitely is a top 5 player can be preferable to hoping someone hits the top 10 a few years from now. Also the one year thing is kind of specious: the whole thing people were using to ding his trade value last time he got traded was that he wanted to play in LA, and with the Clippers hypothetically trading him and the Lakers being capped out now, there wouldn't be too many places left for him to go (and of course even in the scenario where he leaves, you would have plenty of great sign-and-trade options available).

I have Bam safely winning 1 more series in the next 4 years, making your initial claim rubbish. But maybe you are right and he never will do so.

That Toronto won it all was very impressive. On the other hand, a Kawhi team didn't do so hot last year, even with another top player.

No, you're really stretching things with the East/West disparity where sure, maybe you can go around .500 and win a 4/5 series in the East whereas the Clippers were a top 4 regular season team last year and this and it might not be enough to make the WCF. That doesn't change the difference between being someone who's in the conversation for best player in the world and someone who might be like fringe top 10.

Vote: Jaylen. Underpaid nearly complete player who would be a dream fit on any team. The pay gap vs. Donovan Mitchell is enough to put Jaylen ahead despite whatever arguments might seem to show Mitchell was better.

(Switched from Bam.)

Nominate: Booker.
