Didn't see that coming tbh.
I guess they want to win more, so it will be interesting to see who his replacement is.

Nate McMillan most likely gets the promotion.

Unsurprising. Hawks fans seems to have wanted this for a while. They have basically the same record as the Magic, Wizards and Cavs after spending a buttload of money this offseason. Plus Nate McMillan is already on the bench.
Could this mean they're sellers at the deadline if they're still only in the running for the play-in tournament?

the plan is to get as good as quickly as possible....I fully believe we could have been a borderline playoff team last year by adding young veterans....using or draft picks and cap space.....can I specifically tell you who? no.

They've been really hurt by injuries. This seems harsh. There's almost always an issue with a key a young player when this happens. It wouldn't shock me if it's Trae who's sick of losing, or Collins who they're worried about signing elsewhere.

hmm, that wasnt really the buzz in the city itself.

Owner spent a bunch of money and wants results. GM not taking responsibility in an attempt to keep his own job. Sucks. Schlenk really should have stood up and said my roster, my fault. Even without the injuries, this roster still had holes that should have been foreseen. No veteran wing defenders, a backup PG choice that we all knew was a mistake, no decision made on Collins and he got to publicly trash your star player without a word.
It's a mess but its not Pierce's mess.

Was it Lloyd who wanted McMillan, a qualified head coach, on his bench?

Yes it was, at least on other Hawks forums. The ability to hold leads in the 4th, rotations, playing small and the major one was playing Gallo at C particularly when we are missing our best perimeter defenders.

Told y'all after last night's debacle. McMillan should get a run this 2nd half of the season.

Feels early by 2 weeks, but not unexpected. I actually didn't mind the job he did; and agree that Atlanta going all in last offseason was a mistake (although that doesn't surprise anyone given what I said then).

Re: Woj: Hawks fire Pierce
Think in general both this:
and this:
Seems like there's some locker room issues going on but at the same time they're not drastically underperforming especially given injuries. They just kinda rushed a rebuild and built a roster that was kind of middling. At the same time I'm not really sure he's a good coach, but don't know the whole situation. Don't really see this fixing the problem either.

He should NOT have told trae to play defense. Now new coach knows, less then 12h it takes when doing ridicolous demands

Re: Woj: Hawks fire Pierce
Schlenk isn’t going anywhere. The FA pickups have been bad but he’s done a great job drafting and stocking the hawks with young talent. Hawks had absolutely zero to work with when he took over in 2017.....yes hawks have had injuries this year which have hurt, but it was pretty clear from watching the games that Pierce was overmatched as a coach.
