Maybe GSW giving cash? Charlotte can use capspace but they don't really need Wanamaker.

Ball is hurt. So maybe he plays a bit?

I’d be surprised if Wanamaker plays for them

Things that are true:
(1) Hornets have a huge need at C.
(2) Hornets have held a vacant roster spot and cap space all season.
(3) Hornets haven't used their room exception.
Given these facts, why use the spot on a non-difference maker trade that doesn't come with any real asset? I have to think some asset is coming over, then we're going to see if we can got a buyout big to sign for the room exception and waive Wanamaker.
Am I missing something?

welcome to life with Mitch Kupchak
I'll give him credit, he's drafted well, and the two guys he's plucked from Boston are our best two players that he spent nothing but cap space to acquire.
But everything else leaves so much to be desired. no asset collection, horrible cap usage, completely ignoring glaring holes in the roster, and this is actually the first trade he's made in three years in Charlotte that wasn't a draft day deal to get 2nds, or a free agent signing morphed into a S&T.

I'm hearing from a San Jose Mercury News beat reporter that there is no draft pick, real or fake, involved in this deal.

Due to a (IMO quite stupid) NBA rule Charlotte had to send out something in the deal. Even if just a top-55 protected 2nd or a prospect who's never coming over like SA gave up.

The part where a Theis went for largely cap relief to get Boston under the tax line. Charlotte's cap space could have been used for that to get a quality reserve/low-end starting C.

OK, the official release says we gave them cash and 2022 top 54 protected for their 2025 top 55 protected. A lot of mess for something that probably doesn't exist.
