I would expect a lot of 'injuries', and fast.

OKC 2.5 games back from Orlando at 4, it will be interesting to see if the league does anything when the rest of the floor product starts to look like what OKC is putting out there.

With less games this year, every loss counts more. I expect the tanking to be unabashed, even despite the playin games.

OKC bringing in Gabriel Deck (age 26) and Vasilije Micic (age 27) on what appear to be multi year contracts.

Adding guys that are this old doesn’t really line up with the tank plan, so many are speculating that this means OKC will compete next season

Bumping this thread back up.

With the LaVine news, here is the 11 games with Chicago Vuc splits

https://www.nba.com/stats/vs/advanced/#!?TeamID=1610612741&VsPlayerID=202696&Season=2020-21&SeasonType=Regular%20Season&LastNGames=11

The defense is 14.6 rating worse with Vuc on the floor than off, and the team's net rating is 18.1 points worse.

I panned the trade hard, but it has gone so much worse than I expected.

On the otherhand, we get to test Chuck's theory out:

That's a crazy gamble for Chicago, what if Lavine gets hurt?

If LaVine gets hurt then it hurts the pick the Magic get....

Spoiler:
I'm sorta kidding, but also sorta not.

Looking tough for me. Only team they would have a realistic chance to pass on record would be the Pels with the Raps and Wizards reasonable chances to catch them.

But if they can hold on to 10 beating 2 of Indy, Charlotte, Boston, Miami, New York, Atlanta doesn't feel that insurmountable so you're telling me there's a chance.

I do think they are going to play better basketball without him, but looking at the standings it may not matter.

I pulled this from Basketball Insiders

Basketball Executives:

Arturas Karnisovas — executive vice president of basketball operations
Marc Eversley — general manager
Pat Connelly — vice president of player personnel
JJ Polk — assistant general manager
Steve Weinman — assistant general manager
Brian Hagen — associate general manager
Jim Paxson — director of pro personnel
Doug Collins — senior advisor of basketball operations
John Paxon — senior advisor of basketball operations

There are some Executives (Jim Paxson, Doug Collins and John Paxson) that I haven't been impressed with over the years and I wonder what the setup actually is in that FO. Did Karnisovas really want to trade for Vucevic or was there some stuff going on behind the scenes?

When Golden State was considering a trade for Love, Jerry West made it known that he wasn't in favor of it. No idea if anybody in the Chicago FO tried to standup and oppose the trade for Vucevic. I understand about Karnisovas wanting to move up and be in charge of a team, but having legacy people (Paxson, Collins and Paxson) in the FO might be difficult to overcome.

It almost seems like they wanted to be a little more all in with Lavine's extension coming up. I didn't care for it either, but saw what they were going for even if I disagreed with it. Now I'd guess they're still locked into Lavine/Vuc a few years but don't see the upside being more than 8th in the east with downside of missing the playoffs without a pick. Though as Chuck said you never know (I think their schedule is still semi-tough remaining but not sure).

Say hello to the new part owner of the Utah Jazz...Dwyane Wade??

Likely a very small stake but should be good for the team. I don't think any of us saw *that* coming :)

On a totally unrelated note, the Utah Jazz are now my least favorite NBA franchise.

Just kidding. I think this is great for the Association and while Utah feels pretty random, I understand options may be limited and if as reported he gets to be pretty involved in operations and that's what he wants his next step to me, then good for him. Certainly can't hurt Utah with recruiting.

We'll sell 1% to JJ Barea, and Chuck won't know what to do with himself.

I'd know exactly what to do -- become the biggest Jazz homer the world has ever seen. My love of JJ just absolutely dwarfs my sportshate for DWade. Please look for my Jordan Clarkson is the real MVP thread series starting soon.

Sad thing is, if the Mavs make the playoffs, I know we're out in the first round. The Jazz were the one team I didnt mind losing to in said series if we had to lose to somebody, but now, ugh. No win across the board.

Utah starting to blow up. a lot of IT moving there and the real estate market is bonkers there right now, as in high prices and very fast sales

Seems questionable. And now Wagner isn't playoff eligible.

good find. I think AK got fked by those 3 billy kings and will be fired soon.
Vuc was the worst trade i can think of when Carter/Lauri was better.
Doncic will be goat. Lauri will be his sidekick.
