I was trying to understand this trade, and it didn't make any sense at all! Why is Portland getting all of this just for CJ? And then I saw Dame.

Horrificly bad and can hardly even make it out. Burke at 3 million is not all that much overpaid, and giving up Kleber KP and a pick and what to show for it? CJ McCollum? Not the direction Dallas will go at all.

If PDX were ever to consider trading Dame (they won't), going to the Sixers for Simmons++ is probably about the best framework to start around.

Except in this deal, they don't actually get Simmons. Instead he's rerouted to Dallas for........nothing, as far as I can tell? Mavs outgoing looks like the return for just CJ, not CJ plus Simmons.

So, in total, Portland trades Dame and CJ for a few late 1sts 3-5 years in the future. Yeah, I don't think this one is happening.

Yeah maybe Dallas should give away a few more picks to Portland.

So..POR sends out its top 3 backcourt for low picks and roleplayers, so the Mavs get a young all nba guy and get off a terrible contract?

Those picks are years away, when Embiid and Dame might have declined severely or not even playing for the Sixers. Same with the Lakers pick.
