Wow. That is very sudden. Hope nothing to do with health issues.

Irregular heartbeat.

We all remember Hank Gathers, so if the guy doesn't feel right on the court then he shouldn't push it. Life is more important than ball (barely).

I'm curious about (some) "Nets fans" who shift from "Aldridge was the final piece to the chip!!1!1!1!" to "Well. That dude was cooked anyway. No biggie."

So sad. He’s had a great career and banked a lot of $, no reason to risk his health.

Good decision, family first.

If the Nets win it all, he gets a ring. Good decision for him, sucks that it happened

Yeah, he made the right call. Shocking, no other word, but the right call on his health. Heck of a career.

Happy retirement and good health to LMA. Congrats on a heckuva 15 year NBA career.

Agree with his decision, but a ring under these circumstances seems meaningless.

I’m not saying he would outright earn it, but he’s retiring because of a major condition. It’s not like he’s retiring because he just felt like it.

It’d be like an honorary champion, but it’d still be a good move

Very fun player to watch, especially towards the end of his Portland run. Anybody else remember when he had back to back 40 point games on Dwight Howard and the Rockets in the playoffs?

Yeah, it's a shame, but some things are more important than other things. Health is the former.

He can look back on a fine career. Wishing him well, and wellness.

Don't know if the NBA does this but in other sports, guys sign these one day contracts so that they can
retire as a member of that team. One would hope Portland does this for LA for he's a guy who should
have never left Portland

Sucks he had to retire due to health issues but that’s far more important than basketball.

With that said, I don’t think the Nets were winning it all even before LMA’s retirement.

Out of all the buyout guys, I thought he had a chance to be a real X factor in a series against Embid the way Dwight was an X factor for the Lakers against Denver last year against Jokic. Aldridge gave them a 7-ft frame combined without sacrificing their floor spacing.

Against most teams - Brooklyn will close with the Big 3, Joe Harris and depending on the matchup either Jeff Green or Bruce Brown. Against Philly, they will need to give DeAndre more burn, which at this point isn't a good thing.

A solid steady career for LMA. I still play the what if game if Colangelo had selected him for Raps instead of Bargnani.

Don't do this. Calling out people for bad posts that haven't even happened yet isn't necessary or productive, and really is just fan bashing.

I've been on the record saying he was cooked since day 1. I was wrong though, he had a bit more then I thought. Same with Blake.

That said, not having LMA for the Nets is a good thing. It is protecting Nash/D'antoni from themselves. The day LMA arrived Deandre was dropped from the rotation and claxtons minutes were slashed in half. Say what you want about DJ being an awful contract or Claxton being hyped but those 2 guys represented the only pick and roll lob threats on the team. and we FEASTED on pick and roll lobs all year. We have tons of shooting, that pick and roll man forcing D to pinch in got us lots of open corner and wing threes also. Joe Harris benefits a ton from it.

But Nash/D'antoni are in love with 5-out. and having a 6'11" shooter they were gonna run that into the ground. Its nice to have jeff green for small ball or some minutes to blake as a stretch 5 but the Nets offense is just much much better with a rolling rim running big man next to 4 elite shooter.
