Eliminated: IND is out, knee-jerk trades & solutions

Post#1 » by Foshan » Fri May 21, 2021 2:17 am

So i thought this could be fun as each team gets knocked out. Especially at a time in which fans of said eliminated teams are thinking very clearly :D

So where does Indiana go from here?

I think they hire a new coach (Kenny Atkinson?), finally break up the big guys and I'm thinking it's Sabonis that goes and then continue to rebuild around their young(er) core.

What's the Sabonis market?

Is TJ Warren going to be healthy going forward?

I’m not sure you break up the front court of Turner/Sabonis because you will inevitably get less than fair value, but I think something needs to happen.

I don’t remember who all was involved but isn’t there a rift between the coach and like half of the players? Probably either need to fire the coach or do a massive overhaul of the roster. I will say that I don’t hate a fully healthy Pacers team though.

Brogdon/McConnell
LeVert/Lamb
Warren/McDermott/Holiday
Turner/Brissett
Sabonis/Goga

Is a very solid team on paper.
Rest in peace Mamba. There'll never be another Kobe.

I think if we blame the coach and fire him, we see what the new guy can do with Brogdon. LeVert, Warren, Sabonis, and Turner.

We try to resign McConnell. We probably can't chase McDermott unless someone takes Lamb into cap space. I doubt Sampson comes back. Goga, Brissett and Martin have earned minutes.

We draft 13th unless we're very lucky. We do not need a 1 or a 5.

I'm a fan of the idea another thread had...

Charlotte gets Andrew Wiggins, James Wiseman and 17th Overall Draft Pick

Golden State Warriors get Domantas Sabonis and Gordon Hayward

Indiana Pacers get 6th Overall Pick and 2022 Golden State Warriors First Round Draft Pick

Pacers save tons of money and add 2 first round draft picks (one is a second lotto pick).

Hornets add their future center (hopefully), a mid-first and take a chance on Wiggins.

Warriors...
C-Sabonis
PF-Draymond
SF-Hayward
SG-Klay
PG-Steph

Even if Hayward/Klay break down, Steph/Draymond/Sabonis is a solid big 3 then whenever you get a healthy Hayward or Klay (or even better Hayward AND Klay) you just coast to wins.

I've loved TJ Warren eversince his Suns days, but the dude just can't seem to stay healthy. Last season was the most games he's ever played in a season - even though it was the Covid shortened season.

Prior to that, he averaged 52 games a season as a Sun (or 63% of the season), and only played 4 games this season.

The Pacers definitely can't hinge their success on his health.

Clearly the solution is taking calls for every player and insist to get respectful value for our players.

If you don't get respectful value for them, you keep them, because God wants a world where every creature shows respect to every other creature.

Whatever different job Bjorkgren and Pritchard will do next, they will be great at it, because they always think all they do is great :D .

In the other threads I wrote that the Pacers have a history of trading picks for players and have not traded players for picks.

But if Pritchard and Buchanan are fired that could change.

Stand pat. The personnel isn't the problem. Ask Bjorkgren why the defense was such a disaster and if he doesn't have an answer that leads you to believe he knows how to fix it, can him. Good teams start with defense and this team has more than enough talent to be a good offensive team if they can turn the defense around.

I find it kinda funny that pretty much everyone on pacers team is rated as higher value then all mavs players outside luka while not mak7ng the po in the east. It either means luka is underrated, mavs players are underrated or that pacers players are overrated. In either case, time to do something to shake it up in indiana

Question is, what is respectful value? Clearly most of them are worse then their reputation

Way too good for Hornets

Hayward is barely an even trade for Wiggins, but they somehow also get Wiseman and #17 because reasons

Which similar salaried player could Wiseman/Wiggins/17 get in return you think?

The Pacers need to be healthy if they are they're a good team. I'd consider trading Brogdon and LeVert first, I like both but both get hurt a lot. What could they get for them? That's the million dollar question.

I think Indy need to focus on being a top 5 defense and trade the good players they have that don't fit that.

The success Indy has had over the years has been from being a top defense.

Keep Turner, Sabonis, Goga, McConnell, Oshae

Trade Brogdon, Warren, LeVert, Sumner, Lamb

Less then the gsw fans here think. Pretty much neutral value, I wouldnt do it as mavs but guess valuewise KP could be argued, but wouldnt wotk salarywise i guess either. Wiseman with wiggins is a lot of salary to match

Losing Warren hurt, but at some point if you're relying on a guy who can't stay healthy, to stay healthy, that's a bad plan.

I mean, if you take away an MVP candidate and then just slightly upgrade the entire rest of the supporting cast, I think everyone would agree that the resulting team would be a fair bit worse...
