Mavs receive Dario Saric
Suns receive Maxi Kleber

Dario has been both amazing and missing this season for the Suns. When on, his playmaking and strechability are lethal on a second unit. He may offer the Mavs the someone else than Luka playmaker they are looking for - at least in part.

Maxi is a more traditional big that could both back up and compliment Ayton. He can shoot, defend, and protect the rim - all things the Suns need from a back up big.

Both players are of similar age and have similar deals and both fan bases have complained about what their respective big can and can't do.

Dario's playmaking could help but Mavs can't afford to get rid of Maxi and bring even less protection in the paint. Think a trade like this could only be considered if we get a good defensive C like Holmes or JAllen but even then I would probably not do it.

Dont KCP and WCS provide decent rim protection? I thought play making was your priority addition this offseason?

Stretchability? He's a 35% 3 point shooter, that's below average

KP in prior years maybe but in 2021 he's been terrible in rim protection. WCS does provide some rim protection but he's so hesitant offensively that it makes it hard to play him.

Your right, playmaking is priority to me but I do not think Dario is a good enough playmaker to alleviate pressure off of Luka in the playoffs to make the defensive drop worth it.

I would rather have Kleber than Saric, so as a Suns fan, I'm OK with this trade and even would add some minor asset (like Carter and/or a 2nd rounder).

I'd pass for the Mavs. I think others are saying essentially the same, Kleber is more valuable and hence a straight swap doesnt make sense.

Its average for a big. Again, he disappeared during stretches of the season going ice cold. Sarics biggest issue has been consistency. He can be a knock down shooter at times.

Dario was an excellent play maker this season. I think its exactly the kind of secondary play making the mavs need. However, like I've said, the consistency is an issue. He is a guy who got covid and really sufford afterwards.

mavs can't afford the loss of kleber's defense imo. Kleber for Crowder would be a bit more interesting imo

I agree. People have been so low on Maxi I thought I would throw this out there. The hesitation from the Suns side would be that Maxi is the prototype for Jaylen Smith. I mean, that exactly what the Suns expect from him so why trade for a duplicate model?

Well Maxi is ready to play now for a team that jumped immediately into contender status. Smith seems unlikely to be a guy you'd want to count on for a regular rotation role next year. Obviously if he jumps in and provides that, what a huge bonus.

As to the trade I'm not a huge fan just because Dallas has KP and Powell who are really centers--junk zone against the Clippers notwithstanding and Saric has shown his real value comes in playing him at center, not PF.

Its a fair point and a reason I posted this. Smiths growth will be key if the roster stays essentially the same going into next season.
