KP for DDR (ST) .. Simple Trade ..

Spurs get KP for nothing .. If Pop continues, I think it would be the place to go for KP ..
They still have money to spend on FA

In: DDR
DDR is a legitimate second sword (I guess) Help Luka in creating plays and scoring. Mavs still have money to surround these with as many defenders as possible

While I would like to trade KP, I dont want Derozen. he cant space the floor or defend, and those really are the qualities Luka needs most next to him. Not to mention DDR is a net negative most times for his team.

I also dont want to give Pop keys to unlock what all always hoped KP to be

I'd do this with the caveat that DD agrees to play starter's minutes but starting on the bench. He would be a great anchor for the 2nd unit and I like being able to run some stuff through him with Luka on the court now that Luka's shooting is consistent enough for him to play off-ball and the team certainly strongly signaled yesterday that they needed a less Luka-centric approach on every possession.

And moving KP means they could bring back THJ and go hard after another quality starter in free agency.

I don't like the DeRozan fit with Luka. If the Mavs want to dump Porzingis for free, the Spurs have the room. DeRozan can go elsewhere

I like this but am a DDR stan. He is imperfect, but would be a nice secondary ballhandler to Luka and his cutting would be money with Doncic handling the rock. If they could sign him to the lowest AAV possible while matching KP, which I think would be like 22-23M. Opens up more cap space in comparison to keeping KP around and gets a comparable talent despite being an imperfect fit.

I would argue that KP making 30M and playing like Luke Kornet is a pretty imperfect fit in Dallas right now too.

I think the option of simply dumping KP to SAS for cap space and a minor asset could be appealing as well, and think of all the places he might put it together the Spurs are top of the list.

Why does it matter if he starts or comes off the bench he can just rest around the 6 minute mark and come back late first early 2nd to run the second unit. Telling an all star caliber player u want to pay him as a starter play him starter minutes but bring him off the bench is a terrible sales pitch.

Any SAS fans want to chime in on this one. Would you swallow KP into your capspace for no additional incentive?

And if you do what would be the plan for the rest of your team? Would you rather see if you could squeeze DD into the rest of your cap space instead of sending him out here in a SNT?

spurs have a great defensive big in poetl that would actually probably be a good fit by KP

I wouldn't be against this trade or any that basically have the Spurs taking a flier without having to give up assets. If KP is that bad, he'll help the tank. If he's good, the Spurs can pivot into trying to build around him. The team has tradeable contracts if they end up needing space in a summer or two in order to bring in a max free agent. Otherwise, they don't need it.

I'd still prefer to try to get Collins in RFA though, so perhaps some incentive would help me give up on that plan.

True. The CJ reductivism has soured my rational heart. Seems like alot of reductionism right now on the T&T when teams get booted from the PO's. But, ya, wasnt needed.

I don't see Dallas doing better than pure cap space. They get a mulligan and have a huge amount of cap space to spend depending on if they want to do the DD SNT part and what they do with THJ. Operate over the cap with DD and THJ and the MLE or see if Lowry wants to sign up for another round with DD?
