Cavs/Celtics/Knicks

Ill offer this idea for:
-Cavs to move on from Love and acquire another 2021 1st
-Celtics move on from veterans PGs and get a controllable scouring PG who's career arc aligns with Brown/Tatum while saving money off cap
-Knicks use cap space and excess 2021 picks to land a veteran defensive PG

To Cavs (Trade Love, Sexton)
-Kemba Walker (2 years, $73.6 million - assuming he a) opts in for last year b) waives 15% trade kicker)
-#16 pick from Boston

To Celtics (Trade Walker, Smart, #16)
-Collin Sexton (1 year, $6.4 million plus Q.O.)
-Kevin Love (2 years, $60.2 million)
-#32 pick from Knicks

To Knicks (Trade #32)
-Marcus Smart (1 year, $13.8 million)

Why?
-Cavs shake up starting 5 by swapping Sexton for Walker and moving on from Love as they look to add more youth with 2 2021 1sts

Walker/Garland/FA?
Okoro/Windler/FA?
Cavs 1st/Osman/FA?
Nance/Prince/FA?
Allen/#16/Hartenstein

-Celtics move on from veteran PGs and get younger by swapping Walker for Sexton and add Love for greater front court veteran depth while they save money off cap

Sexton/Pritchard/Edwards
Fournier?/Langford/#32
Brown/Nesmith/#45
Tatum/Love/Williams
Thompson/Williams/Fall?

-The Knicks use cap space and a 2nd to add veteran PG/SG in Smart as they add a defensive backcourt piece.

Kemba is a better player than Walker but worse roster fit for CLE. They would wipe that swap out and Boston would have to move Kemba elsewhere.

If CLE moves on from Sexton it’s likely because they want a bigger guard next to Garland. No reason for them to let a damn near perfect fit in Smart go to NY for a pennies on the dollar instead of keeping him for themselves.

Sexton is a hard guy for me to value. I think Smart + #16 with Boston also taking back Prince’s expiring deal could be a fit. But I could see a team like NO maybe offering a higher pick.

I wouldn't trade Sexton for 16 and I wouldn't trade Love for Kemba. I wouldn't trade Love for Kemba and No. 16. I think people are way, way too dismissive of Kemba's health issues on that contract and I say that as someone who thinks that K. Love might retire if he suffers another serious injury.

BOS is better with Smart in and #16, maybe with Kemba waived and stretched

Only NYK will like this deal.

Sure, I guess it comes down to who has more value: Walker at approx $75 million remaining at 31 or Love at approx $60 million remaining at 33.

Kemba better than Walker?

I’m confused.

Or Love at his buyout number. But it comes down to more than that. The Cavs can split minutes between Nance and Love which might actually keep them both on the court for longer. Kemba doesn't help the Cavs spacing issues. Shipping out Love and Sexton for him makes them worse. The Cavs have team control over Sexton and two years from now both Love and Kemba will be playing on very different contracts assuming their still even in the league.

Also Kemba's playstyle is more likely to be affected by injuries compared to Love. Granted it doesn't matter if neither are on the court but even if one got hurt outside of conditioning there is less concern that Love wouldn't be able to reach his current peak.

Sorry typo, Kemba is a better player than Love.

Gotcha.

Agreed.

I do expect a “revival” in his game once he inevitably gets moved/bought out.

If BOS and CLE wanted to do this, CLE would be better off taking Smart directly.

I can't see CLE wanting to do this, Walker's actually a worse contract than Love, and Love is a better fit when he plays. I think CLE can do better than pick #16 for Sexton.

NY just stealing Value here, Take out smart and we have a conversation NY should not be in this deal.

Love and Sexton for Kemba and 16 is the discussion As a celtics fan I would think about iit so long as Sexton wanted to re-sign, don't see cCeavland trading their best player. I don't love sexton (no pun intended) but Love could help stretch the floor for us and his age is more in line with our core. If there are no other options I would strongy consider it, but I am hopeful we can get something better.

It would be a rather abrupt conversation on Cleveland's end.

I would be shocked if there aren't more than a dozen offers for Smart that would be significantly better than cap space and a 2nd.

-There would be 28 teams lining up to beat the knicks offer of #32 for smart.

-Awful trade for the Cavs. They give up a younger, better, player with plenty of term left in his deal for a non-lotto pick, #32 which is basically a second rounder, and swapping awful contracts?
