Man, Memphis is pushing the heck out of that roster limit. They're going to end up paying more people not to play for them than they are people to play for them :D

The Detroit of the West as some folks would say.

Yeah in this case they seemed committed to paying Juancho to go away so doing the same with Dunn and Edwards and doing a solid for Boston's new GM seems like a good bit of good kit.

And I was hard on Boston in their off-season thread for continuing Ainge's carry too much dead weight at the end of the roster, but they should get some minutes out of Juancho so this was very nice.

Also if IT signs there now I will not be surprised at all.

I'm still a Junacho believer. And yes, he still could have fit in the Horford TPE for another couple days.

For Boston they get a guy who might help; for Memphis they get the better pick and if he makes the roster, a flier on Edwards, and they saved 200k.

Seems pretty solid deal for both.

You got details on that pick swap ? If it’s bos for Memphis , seems to be favoured towards Boston. Not sure if it’s Memphis rights to swap the pick

Not sure if this is accurate but Hollinger has it as a swap w/ the best of Indiana/Miami.

Seems like a flyer on Edwards more than anything, which is a bit of what Memphis has been doing.

Seems to make sense for both sides. MEM saves money in the deal. Maybe they preferred to keep some of their other back end roster guys so buying Dunn/Edwards out would be cheaper than JH.

BOS turns two third unit guys into a guy who has a clearer path to earning a 2nd unit spot.

It's very questionable for me that BOS seems committed to tax though.

As long as OKC remains available, they can still duck tax at the deadline if this season is underwhelming. This doesn't change anything with regards to that.

Memphis is picking up quite a bit of the flyers . Culver and now edwards .
Not sure if edwards will remain out of training cap though.

Edwards is absolutely getting cut unless Memphis makes a major consolidation trade or can get value from some of their other end of roster guys. I would have him 20th on their pecking order right now.

Save some cash and a possible draft asset. Good for Memphis. Edwards and Dunn are waved or traded again. This is not us taking a flyer on Edwards, I have us taking a look at Oturu or Merrill before Edwards. Edwards is a straight waive here. Dunn might be able to be able to be flipped again in a similar trade but otherwise waived as well.

For Boston, I love it. Trade two guys that were very likely not rotation players for one that could be at a position of need. Good trade at a very low cost.

True, but other teams will likely have the same mindset and might up the ante on using that cap space. Seems like a dangerous strategy to me.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for going for it. I just look at the caliber of players we're over the tax line for and it's so underwhelming to me. With our TPEs, it's not like we need these guys for salary matching at the deadline. Feels like it'd be a much better strategy to start the year under and then go over with additions if it's warranted vs start the year over because of how much we're paying our 9th/10th/11th/12th man types.

i'd guess everyone involved in this trade would've been cut by Memphis, so they save $225,000. It's largely an inconsequential trade but I guess Boston wanted to tryout Hernangomez, and then use him as expiring trade filler at the deadline.

yeah, and I would cut parker now and save that 3 mill and go with Hauser, will make it easier getting under the tax at the break.

Really not sure what Memphis is trying to accomplish.

From Boston, I guess this is a marginal improvement this year. They turn 2 guys that aren't playing into a backup. But he isn't a good backup. They keep making "win now" moves that don't seem like they are going to have much impact.
