Cool that he gets to officially end his NBA career as a Grizzly.

Does he want to retire? Because to me he is still better than Dwight and especially DAJ.
But he isnt in the LBJ entourage so probably wasn't welcome.

Who is in this entourage you speak of and how do you know?

Lakers and Memphis seem to have a solid relationship for trade. Pretty interesting how Mmphis keep helping the lakers out.

I think Lebron values winning over playing with his buddies. Kevin Love certainly wasn't in his circle and he made that his first demand when going back to Cleveland.
My guess is Marc may have told the Lakers he no longer wanted to play in the NBA which led to the Dwight/Jordan additions and they held on to Gasol in case they needed his matching for a trade and when they didn't then they paid a small price to save 8 figures.

I find it interesting that Memphis is getting salary dumps and OKC seems to have zero interest even though they aren't doing anything else. Presti went from doing everything to doing nothing and its really confusing.

Re: [Wojnarowski]: Gasol to the Grizzlies
Are the Lakers so far over the tax line that dumping a minimum contract saves them 10M???
Wow.
Wow.

Makes me think he's focused on a bigger fish, maybe Simmons trade. Either to take Simmons or take a freebie into capspace as a third team. I've been playing around with OKC as third team to allow Sixers to get a big TPE. I've been doing it because OKC have been oddly quiet and have $22m in capspace.

Re: [Wojnarowski]: Gasol to the Grizzlies
They have to be holding out until the deadline to be a 3rd or 4th team and hopefully get a longterm piece. Deals to take on money for 2nds will be there still plus he can play the salary floor trick of ownership not having to pay out a full salary that counts as full for the floor.Texas Chuck wrote:zimpy27 wrote:Lakers and Memphis seem to have a solid relationship for trade. I guess but they have $60M in TPE's and room under the tax line. Would have thought he would have taken some now and still been able to do more at the deadline. But maybe this is paying back the governors for those years of paying tax? I get OKC's local media deals have to be among the worst in the league so I'm sure these have been tough financial years. But even with that, its surprising to me.

Re: [Wojnarowski]: Gasol to the Grizzlies
Could also just be that Detroit and Memphis are driving the price down to levels he doesn't want to sell at. Iirc a lot of their dumps happened when they were the only active seller of space.Texas Chuck wrote:pacers33granger wrote:They have to be holding out until the deadline to be a 3rd or 4th team and hopefully get a longterm piece. I also wonder if last draft has shown him that there is some limitation to value for hoarding picks. Teams don't seem as interested to bring in multiple FRPs.

Re: [Wojnarowski]: Gasol to the Grizzlies
I get the 10M savings, but on the Lakers may regret this on the floor.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

I don’t get it either . He’s been out of most dump which returns assets no matter how minimal .
A future seconds is still assets to OKC and even if value is minimal we can always reflip it then at draft day and presti plays the long game . The very very long game.
Also at trade deadline, we will have the limitation of roster spot at play so he could have use some of the space now.
My read is that he probably think that there will be quite a few big moves for stars and they will need to dump quite a bit of salary then. That’s where he positioning himself to hopefully get in on the trade . For now he content to give up on all the seconds .
Or the flip side . Memphis just undercutting him

Damn, the Lakers really took the Wang in this deal.
(somebody had to do it)

New York said Mitchell wasn't the guy you trade the sink for, then they traded it for Mikal, lol.

DAJ maybe, no way he a better player than current Dwight. Gasol a shell of himself. Gasol Still can dominate defensively with good matchups.
